its starting to look like an ugly family probate fight....understandable with the amount of money and potential survival of the builder(s) hanging in the balance.

As for the 737 being a hunk of junk? Its doubtful a hunk of junk design would have survived 50 years in the industry if that assessment were appropriate.

We are taking deliveries of new airframes now....so better get used to seeing them around for at least another 20 years or so....

I guess I don't understand the disdain for the 737. I flew it for two years and enjoyed my time on it. Its not as roomy as the Airbus, but it's not horrible to deal with either. Plus, it pays more!

I would be surprised if Boeing didn't have it's 757 replacement design ready for that RFP.

And the delivery timeline on that would be? ...unacceptable...

Another limbo fleet like the 787 will not fill the need. I say get an engine mod STC for the 757s with the LEAP or GTF. Not likely I know, but the timeline would be more plausible.
