320 v 737 bid package future. ATL
All,
Several threads already comparing 320 v 737 cockpits.
Curious to get your opinions on how you think the 2 bid packages will change as we take more deliveries of 321s and 737-900ERs.
It seems the 320 category does approximately 3 legs a day. 320s seem to fly longer legs than 321s. I thought the 321s were supposed to be just as capable??
The 73N category seems more like 2 legs a day (on average).
Thanks.

I personally love the 320. As an FO, I flew the B727, MD88, 737-300, Maddog again, and the 75/76 for 8 years. I never thought I'd love an airplane more than the 757, but the 320 sure is rubbing me the right way.

As the category continues to grow, I've noticed that the ATL 320 trips have gotten progressively worse as far as multi-leg days are concerned. When I first came to the fleet, there seemed to have been more 1-2 leg day rotations. Now we seem to be doing more MD/717 flying with much more 3 and 4 leg days. The other drawback is the inevitable Caribbean/Mex penalty lap on the last day on many of the rotations. That said, the jet is comfortable. But in my opinion, ATL has the worst trip mix when it comes to the Bus.

The 737 does a little bit of everything, except for Europe, deep SA, or Pacific flying. The 320 is more domesticated. From what I understand, the first 40ish 321's are plumbed for the larger center tank but has a smaller one installed. The remaining aircraft orders will have the longer range tanks. My guess is that as those come online, we will see more transcon legs, which will mean some trips will have fewer legs per day. After we get a better feel for what the 321's are capable of with the added weight, maybe they put the bigger tank in the earlier ones.

They say it takes an overnight to roll them on, install them and bless them and another overnight to remove them but Delta's folks said if they're pulled on they will stay on so as to decrease a chance of something breaking.
When they first showed up they did have a meeting about making them ETOPS to replace 757 out of NYC on a few flights but never heard anything more.
BTW, if you're senior know that the 320 is a European death trap and it's not a Boeing. It's not a Boeing.
