Another voice heard from…
And, IMHO, a very reasonable one.

It's not merely Harvard though. The entire Public Health community will need a generation of doing better to regain the credibility they lost with COVID-19.

An excerpt:
Harvard and the wider scientific community have much work to do to deserve and regain public trust. The first steps are the restoration of academic freedom and the cancelling of cancel culture. When scientists have different takes on topics of public importance, universities should organize open and civilized debates to pursue the truth. Harvard could have done that—and it still can, if it chooses.
Almost everyone now realizes that school closures and other lockdowns, were a colossal mistake. Francis Collins has acknowledged his error of singularly focusing on Covid without considering collateral damage to education and non-Covid health outcomes. That’s the honest thing to do, and I hope this honesty will reach Harvard. The public deserves it, and academia needs it to restore its credibility.
Science cannot survive in a society that does not value truth and strive to discover it. The scientific community will gradually lose public support and slowly disintegrate in such a culture. The pursuit of truth requires academic freedom with open, passionate, and civilized scientific discourse, with zero tolerance for slander, bullying, or cancellation. My hope is that someday, Harvard will find its way back to academic freedom and independence.

then I assume that you are not referring to early strains. Thus i agree with most rational folks that mandates now are not appropriate.
early covid? As they are wrapping their head around it? I have no problem with the lockdowns and masks for a myriad of reasons. As pilots we are all about risk mitigation. If this new virus somehow becomes the same animal? I will support public health measures that the professionals deem necessary.

I question the intelligence of anyone who still thinks the reaction was worth the absolute sh!tshow that ensued and still ensues. Economy, inflation, learning loss, drug usage, mental health, suicides. Difference is, there were half of us who saw it coming and questioned everything because most of it made no sense. (unmasked CA governor anyone). Then there was the other half who put " I wear because I care" banners on their profile page, screamed at people who weren't afraid or masked up, and generally were just d!ckheads for 3 yrs.
And then when our half was proven right (Omicron anyone) and the World finally accepted the obvious benefits of natural immunity, Governors started back tracking and now use the "hindsight being 20/20" or " Monday morning quarterbacking" excuse. Articles came out from the Left leaning "The Atlantic" asking for Covid Amnesty for basically being as$h0les for 3 yrs.
Meanwhile, Governors of places that didn't go full retard have not had to use the "hindsight being 20/20" excuse. Many have stated they're biggest regret was even locking down for the month of March 2020.
I reserve the right to be pi$$ed and ridicule the Covid nuts for eternity. What you all tried to do to these kids is unforgiveable.

How'd those lockdowns and mandates work out? The PM in Canada was just found to have broken Canadian rules with overzealuous trucker mandates. I prefer Swedens approach. Want to argue the data there? They were supposed to be all dead, instead they outperformed all thier neighboring Countries.

And these were not just PREDICTABLE results, these were PREDICTED results by competent people who were told to just shut up and color, the politicians knew best and were the ultimate arbiters of which science to follow and those deviating from that dogma needed to be suppressed. And the cowardly sheep largely went along with it.
