Texas reopens to 100%, rescinds mask mandate

Iowa did it weeks ago as did ND. FL before them. NC eased many restrictions last week and not to be outdone by the “north”, SC eased them even more. I was in SAN last week and things were feeling a little looser. I’m not sure what the actual policies in CA are, but I left the mask in my pocket except to order food and Karen left me alone, many others were doing the same.
If individuals, companies, stores, businesses want to require masks, that’s their right and I respect that. I’ll decide at the time whether I want to patronize them or go somewhere else. I was Christmas shopping at Best Buy and lowered my mask briefly for the facial recognition on the banking app on my phone. The pimply-faced mask cop in an orange vest jumped on me immediately, and rudely. I gave him my $700 worth of stuff and walked out. Same thing happened at a bike shop in CLT last month and we got our deposit back. I respect your policy, but don’t be a jerk about it. If you’re sincerely concerned and cool about it I’ll stay. There’s lots of places to shop that genuinely appreciate your support.
We were told at the beginning protocols were to flatten the curve, slow the spread, etc. Never to end the disease. With the vaccine it may be possible to start a return to normalcy (even though some would like the current state of things to be the new norm for their own social signaling) without overrunning the health care system.
This has gotten so political that no matter who opens first, the other side is going to complain that “their science” isn’t being followed, even though no one has real science other than skewed data. I’ve explained my physician’s POV and I’m following his recommendations rather than some pundit with an agenda.

So sick and this tired bull crap nonsense. It’s high time to get sh*t back to normal. The goalposts have been constantly moving for a year for gods sake. Reasonable people who have been quietly going along with everything need to finally sack up and start speaking some sense into this madness. It’s far past time. Some people will just never be satisfied and willing to accept that life is complicated, viruses happen, and that you can’t just re-engineer society every time something dangerous happens. If you’re not ready to open this thing up at this point, it’s because you’re fundamentally scared and never had a balanced view to begin with. It’s about time more states start doing this. Anyone with even the slightest amount of common sense knows that these rules were a massive overreaction, probably didn’t do a whole lot anyway, and that it’s time for the grown ups to take over and end this ridiculous charade

They didn’t actually check into the EO outside of reacting to the headline. Some nationally branded businesses may hold out, but most will cave and allow normalcy to return. Get outside the urban thought conformity zones and you’ll find people quit complying with the mask mandate months ago all over the nation.

You love masks so much, I bet you could claim them as a dependent on your taxes!

I agree that many local business who were complying will drop any pretense, let people do what they want and gain business because of it. Many of the smaller towns out there were paying scant lip service any way.

You’ll see businesses splitting both ways. Some will market towards normalcy, and others will push their idea of safety angle.
