I cannot understand how you can continue to stick with that "Fauci only said don't wear masks because of the shortage" storyline when faced with the overwhelming evidence that he, like literally every other health official in the country and every other "study" done up until then, concluded masks were not effective (or necessary if you prefer) when worn by the entire population in community setting (outside of, say, a healthcare facility).
This is what he said back then - "Now people should not be walk— there's no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you're in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it's not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And often there are unintended consequences. People keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face." Keep in mind at the same time, CDC and WHO were also saying "There is no added health benefit to the general American public to wear a respiratory protective device, such as an N95 respirator."
Serious question (which I already know you won't address let alone answer) - if all he was worried about was a shortage of N-95s, why not recommend the cloth masks back then? Worried about an underwear shortage?

How about literally every other country? According to the case rankings. As far as deaths per million we would have been at the top too had it not been for the amazing health care systems of such countries as Bosnia, Czechia , Montenegro, Slovenia and Italy. All the major countries are still below us. If you’re unclear what that means, it means that they saved more of their own people while we were at the top of those that didn’t.

And specifically Korea, Japan, Israel, Vietnam, Hong Kong. Canada as an honorable mention if you are going to island-police Japan.

Maddow had the same legal defense in a recent lawsuit. Like you said it is incumbent on the viewer to recognize self proclaimed biased opinion shows are entertainment and not journalism. The problem comes in when the personal biases make their way in obvious fashion into supposed “straight” news shows (as opposed to those opinion shows). This is where past mainstream and respectable news sources have been failing the past few years. In the past if anything you should see your news anchor actively struggling to compensate for their personal political leanings when presenting the news. Lately it’s been all too easy to give in. Again I’m talking about non opinion programs. Serious journalists (like the late Tim Russert) neutrally present both sides and let viewer decide..... Democrats claim this.... Republicans counter saying that..... here’s some interviews asking tough questions of both sides... now you decide. You can’t even get that from the network news anchors these days in prime time. That’s the problem!

There are no “straight” news shows and there has never been.
Even Cronkite, was biased and presented his opinions.

It’s all entertainment and charisma.
What really counts in the end is those in your circle. And that is why the continuing screaming of 500,000+ COVID deaths eventual becomes just noise.

Y’all know it’s the future and we can use things like C-SPAN to see things directly and make our own decisions? Or that we have things like the Associated Press and Reuters which are consistently ranked the most credible and least biased and don’t rely on identifiable news anchors? Why are y’all still using TV talk news?
