Borrowing from the National Popular Vote website:
The origins of the myth about big cities may stem from the misconceptions that big cities are bigger than they actually are, and that big cities account for a greater fraction of the nation’s population than they actually do. In fact, 85% of the population of the United States lives in places with a population of fewer than 365,000 (the population of Arlington, Texas—the nation’s 50th biggest city).
This is easily verifiable via census data.

The majority of these “big cities” are actually a collection of smaller cities.
Dallas ranks in at 1.3 million. When in reality the Dallas metro has almost 8 million. Individual cities within Dallas metro would fall under your nice “oh look it’s a small city under 365,000 people”
Lying with statistics as someone else said.

You are so worried about other people's actions affecting safety - should we have a rule maybe? Only one car on the highway at a time? Sure would be safer.

OMG it is not about politics for God's sake, it is about stupidity. I am NOT A REPUBLICAN and I think it is an absolutely TRAVESTY that we have destroyed the economy for generations, did untold damage to the education and psyche of a generation of CHILDREN, and continue to ruin business and industries alike (tourism, hospitality, food service) all for a virus that kills mostly the infirm and aged and at about the same number as a bad flu. Why do I have to be a republican in your mind to see how stupid that is? the absolute LACK of science around masks, lockdowns, and the calculation of the now mystical herd immunity? Why can't I be a democrat that has critical thinking as an ability?

Do you wear a helmet in your car? It would most certainly be safer to ride with helmet on, right? Why don't you wear a helmet?

What would we do when the rural states like Indiana find that they no longer have any representation in the government, because only the "bigger states/cities" votes and priorities really matter, and decide they want to secede so they can have a say in their own fate? I think that is the genius of the design of the current system - that does not happen. Because, as others have pointed out, this is not a democracy we live in - it is a republic.

I don't intend to get caught up in this s*^t show but compare 2008 to 2020 and note the increasing centralization of votes centered on the coasts and large metro areas. The center of the country is slowly losing it's voice in the future policies of the country with the electoral college. Without it they see themselves as completely hostage to the coasts and metros.
