We all know the lone surfer was not a grandma killer and I'd be quite surprised if anyone here was happy to see him get arrested.
It's almost painful to watch how some of you guys enjoy collectively beating on one poster who has opposing views. That's not the American way guys. Calling the one who disagrees the village idiot etc. Look, I don't agree with everything he says but to accuse him of not having an opinion of his own and barely repeating what he was told is too easy. Everyone should realize that we are all biased and our views are never based just on facts alone but also influenced by fears, emotions, desires. Those in turn are influenced by our experiences, the people we surround ourselves with and the media. That's true wether one consumes main stream media or alternative media.
I can see how it might feel good to think one knows more than those fed lies by mainstream media but please realize you may be fed other lies by other sources. It may feel good mocking science and the experts but it doesn't make it right.
We are all experts in our fields and we wouldn't want this mocked. Our profession is a technically one. We should value science. We should value experts. We are experts and we rely on other experts such as aircraft designers, mechanics and ATC to be professional, too.
Does that mean we should blindly accept anything any scientist tells us? Of course not. But when a majority of scientists can agree on something then it probably means the facts available at the time support that view and not a different one. Yes, they do get it wrong but science does correct itself. It's not a religion based on belief.
And once again, all those conspiracies are helping no one. They also don't make sense. Politicians and the governments can't be incompetent and at the same time orchestrating a huge conspiracy.
It seems much more likely to me that any political failures were a result of incompetence rather than conspiracy.
Most scientists spreading bad science not based on facts are either bad scientists or think they are saying the wrong things for the right reasons. I'm sure that happens. In journalism too by the way. It's not good and needs to be called out when it happens but let's not paint all scientists, journalists, politicians with the same brush. They are human beings just like us and I'm sure most of them want to do the right thing. We don't have to agree with them but we should keep it respectful. Just like we should do when interacting with those we disagree with. In real life and in the internet.

Why is it that the popular media science is the only science? Isn't the whole point of science to be open to the actual evidence and not to rubber stamp the political prevailing opinion? Science is supposed to include a guess at what the truth is, and that a lot of work to both prove and disprove that guess. Where is the real evidence of the effectiveness of closing schools, masks, shutting down business and lockdowns? How can people implement these costly measures with such confidence when there is nothing to really back that up?
Ironically, germ theory was a very unpopular theory when it was first introduced, because the doctors egos and the "science" of the time could not accept that it was possible that the doctors themselves were causing their patients more harm. Eventually we came around.
