ALL I said was it’s too early to de-mask and stop socially distancing.

Where in the TX Governor's order is a requirement to stop wearing masks or distance? Can you quote it please?

Okay. I understand what the unions are saying. What I am referring to, however, are the individual school boards and what they believe to be is their responsibility which is to keep the kids safe. I have a child in a Texas school district and i’m pretty aware of what’s happening with the school board. The discussions among parents and administrators at my child’s school are about the kids not getting sick...not about teachers unions. I’m sure the districts are in favor of teachers being vaccinated before removing the restrictions, I’m just saying that THAT is not the only factor being considered.

Oh ok so maybe those private and locality restrictions had something to do with the numbers too?

If the location in Llano is better than New Braunfels, I’m moving to Llano!!

Masks and social distancing don’t just prevent the spread; they cause people to be more clean, cautious, aware, and responsible. Lifting restrictions will inspire the opposite attitude. We are so close to gaining a foothold on this virus, but reopening too early is like stopping for a break on the last mile of a marathon.

I hope people will continue to wear masks and socially distance, but since it isn’t required anymore, all bets are off. My money is on people celebrating by gathering together unmasked and cases rising again.

Well, when you go to one of those meetings educate them. For the 0-14 age group the total deaths attributed to covid since 10-01-2020 is 102. Two per state. For the 0-17 age group that skyrockets to 208. Four per state.

I haven’t, but I’ll give it a try. I often get the ribeye when we hit Hard 8 and it’s very good.

Do cases really matter if a majority of those at highest risk of severe disease (81% of US COVID deaths are 65+ years old) have been protected by vaccination, and the overwhelming bulk of spread is amongst those with estimated IFRs below 0.02%?

What are we trying to do here - eliminate the virus or protect health system capacity?

There is plenty of data and anecdotal evidence that mask wear encourages people to gather more and distance less. People drop their guard when wearing masks because of a false sense of security.

Masks and distancing have not been enforced in Florida since last fall. The cases in Florida have followed the same curve as the parts of the country with mandates and restrictions. Perhaps it is because the mandates and restrictions are not needed. Perhaps it is because people make informed decisions and take necessary precautions when warranted. Perhaps it is because private entities enforce cleanliness and distancing in the appropriate settings like the NFL lowering Superbowl attendance below the state allowance for the stadium.
