You need to talk to wrxpilot about that, he seems to think it’s perfectly acceptable to go out to restaurants and bars. Obviously you and I know that he is being selfish and reckless, endangering countless lives.

Please educate him about the problems of going out to eat and drink during this pandemic.

Exactly what we do in my city. Masks coming in and out, off for dinner, tables blocked off so no parties within less than six feet. I wonder if the difference in Asia is the built up immunity due to far more exposure to corona viruses than Americans and Europeans?

They’re going, like he said, because they have low cases. Or no cases who knows. Someday you will too here, until then wear the mask. It’s super simple.

Or could it be masks, lockdowns, aggressive contact tracing, and far fewer people with underlying conditions? Definitely built up immunity, makes way more sense.

Exactly. Hong Kong has 8 million people, and a few cases. The US is in a bit different situation obviously.

From the very beginning, people here wore masks, socially distanced, and didn’t rely on whacky right wing blogs for their “science” based decisions. Because of those EARLY decisions and behaviors, everything has for the most part stayed open here (travel being a big exception).

He said throughout the whole pandemic. Besides, you said cases were rising because of people going out, if people are going out in Hong Kong why aren’t they having the same rise and why aren’t they shutting down the bars and restaurants?

Yeah, that’s being done here too at restaurants... in Texas where I live and every state I’ve visited. Bars can be hit or miss depending on state and ‘when’ but often aren’t even open unless outdoors. Indoor dining there are tables marked for non-use to make sure people are spaced out. I usually carry my own food even before covid but sometimes I find myself in a position to seek food on a trip and a place I went to on a trip last week was even more strict, bar patrons could only sit outside (40 degrees but had heaters) and indoor dining was one table per room. I didn’t go inside but it looked like they had three rooms. We still aren’t at business as usual.

Your theory about built up immunity for Corona viruses is news to me. I really don’t think that has anything to do with it, as COVID never spread in most of Asia and even SARS was pretty limited and a very long time ago.

Maybe I have a unique experience but pretty much everywhere I go I see a majority of people wearing masks. I don't know anyone who has had the virus personally so I am not sure what is being done with respect to contract tracing. The fewer people with underlying conditions certainly makes sense. You rarely see Asians who are obese. Definitely a difference in diet and lifestyle. I would love to see a large scale study to see how all this breaks down after the smoke clears. There are probably steps we could take to lessen future outbreaks with respect to personal choices but it would be an uphill battle to get people to change their lifestyles. Hearts and minds campaign would only see marginal success I am sure.

Because it’s basically eradicated here. Whenever they do detect an outbreak, contact tracing is immediately performed and anyone infected or suspected of having close contact is quarantined.
