You are leaving out what the man actually said. He is saying masks aren’t perfect. They aren’t going to keep you safe if you’re packed together and not practicing social distancing. He is saying they should be used, but that the wearer should not consider themselves basically immune from catching it just because they’re wearing a mask.

The other direct quotes from Olsterholm that you have conveniently left out:

https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota...out-face-masks

At the outset, I want to make several points crystal clear:
  • I support the wearing of cloth face coverings (masks) by the general public.
  • Stop citing CIDRAP and me as grounds to not wear masks, whether mandated or not.
  • Don't, however, use the wearing of cloth face coverings as an excuse to decrease other crucial, likely more effective, protective steps, like physical distancing
  • Also, don't use poorly conducted studies to support a contention that wearing cloth face coverings will drive the pandemic into the ground. But even if they reduce infection risk somewhat, wearing them can be important.

"So anyone who claims I don't think masks are important, they are just plain wrong. I do."

As for cloth masks, he said: "Again, I want to make it very clear that I support the use of cloth face coverings by the general public. I wear one myself on the limited occasions I'm out in public," he adds.

"In areas where face coverings are mandated, I expect the public to follow the mandate and wear them."

Agreed..

We are part of a group that is typically educated, well read, rational, logical and deliberative, and yet, like so much of America, many have tragically fallen under the cult of personality of this POTUS.

They are oblivious, or refuse to believe, that POTUS made the deliberate decision to downplay COVID, and politicize the mask issue in the process, primarily as a re-election play.

He gambled with the health of us as Americans and lost. Sadly, in the process, way too many Americans than needed to, also lost.... their lives.

My Trumper friends, POTUS does not care about us. He cares only about himself, his ego, and his extraction from the financial hole he's in, and your strident support for him simply provides a means to his own selfish ends.

He is an accidental president who never intended to win. This whole charade that began in 2016 was simply a PR stunt, that "backfired" on him.

And the rest is history......

I was watching the ‘Rise of the Nazis’ this morning on PBS. Lots of similarities to our present situation.

... and this would then be a direct result of the extremely poor choices of presidential candidates offered by both political parties during the 2016 presidential election, and during somewhat recent times prior. Not that this current election offered anything better, by either party. A poor product is a poor product.

I’ve forgotten what it’s like not to pick the lesser of two evils.

He might have begun to change his tune after backlash from the left and after he started eyeing a spot in the next administration. He clearly stated that the science did not back wearing masks. You can post articles all day but they are all just revisionist history. Listen to the podcast. My original statement was that 1.) he has never seen the CDC release guidance and such shaky guidance and 2.) he didn't think masks that Americans wear work. You quoted him saying that masks should be worn, that is different than what I claimed he said. I never said that he said masks shouldn't be worn. Your quotes do refute that he still thinks the science is not sound and that he questions whether they work or not. Who is the one making up stuff here? I gave you direct quotes backing what I said.

Nonsense. Hitler was, allegedly, a great orator. Can’t vouch for it, didn’t actually learn that much German. But Trump can barely put a coherent sentence together. Yet he beat Hillary and - despite a hundred year bad pandemic - came close to beating Biden. And at the local level, the Dems took some serious losses while picking up (so far) only one Senate seat.

The problem is that we’ve gotten in a national mood where we’d rather see the other guy lose than share a win with him. THAT, not any incipient desire for fascism, is the problem.

Is that a prediction on our Biden/Harris future?

Once again, you are getting caught up in the idea that “peer review” is meaningful. Since you believe that peer reviewed studies should only be used when making public health policies, what peer reviewed study did the CDC rely on when recommending that Americans wear face coverings?

Like when they elected Josef Biden?

I love how everything Trump circles back to Hitler. So predictable.
