150,000 Americans Dead

“15 days to SLOW the spread”, not *end* the spread.
Slowing spread can absolutely save lives, as can other mitigation efforts like masks...but this was NEVER about eliminating the virus.
Respectfully, your understanding and expectation was wrong...not mine.

So this is the desired effect: a protracted recession and a decimated travel industry. And a virus that will persist until it burns out or we get a vaccine.

To be honest, the messaging was all over the place.
But I'm saying, if we want to be done with COVID, we have to do better than 16,000 cases per day. That was the lowest we got after the initial outbreak, and it was too much.
We have to get much lower if we even have a chance of containing it. I don't know if we will before winter.
COVID + Seasonal flu simultaneously = BAD TIME.

I think the NZ approach illustrates the fallacy of lockdowns and isolation as a viable solution.
An island nation with 5M people.
The single point of lockdown and isolation to successfully contain this virus was at its orgin in china.
While they did so internally to protect themselves....they did not for the rest of the world.

The fact of the matter is that we (and I mean the Trump administration) sat on our asses for 2 solid months pretending it didn't exist. Meanwhile allowing COVID to get a solid foothold across the country, from both oceans, undetected. It's a fact that had we entered into lockdown earlier we might have been able to slow the spread to a point where contact tracing was viable.
And in that alternative timeline, there would be less than 172,000 dead Americans in the ground right now. That's a fact.

All the death comparisons to NZ, Australia, and other countries? The politically incorrect answer lies in our health and racial breakdown. It's no secret Covid has disproportionately killed a lot more blacks and hispanics than white people (proportionately speaking). 40% of America is obese, 70% are overweight. With that, you have multiple cormobities throughout the country. Hypertension, diabetes, heart issues, etc. The reality is we are an extremely unhealthy country and we have a large portion of the population that falls in the demographics that are most affected by Covid19.

The first known recorded US death from Covid was the first week of March. So what are these 2 months you speak of? Mid January, WHO declares to the world that China says no human transmission of Covid. China then pressures the WHO to delay declaring Covid a pandemic as long as possible. I like how Trump is blamed for not doing "something" in the month of February. You really think anyone would have put up with a draconian lockdown in February when no one had died? Covid was already here AND spreading far before we even knew how serious this thing was. It's a global pandemic.
