From the CDC website:
not sure where you heard that the CDC said one or the other.
"Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others
- You could spread COVID-19 to others even if you do not feel sick.
- The mask is meant to protect other people in case you are infected.
- Everyone should wear a mask in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
- Masks should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
- Do NOT use a mask meant for a healthcare worker. Currently, surgical masks and N95 respirators are critical supplies that should be reserved for healthcare workers and other first responders.
- Continue to keep about 6 feet between yourself and others. The mask is not a substitute for social distancing."
not sure where you heard that the CDC said one or the other.
Also from the CDC website (updated Aug 7, 2020):
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...-guidance.html
- CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
- Masks may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
- Masks are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings.
- Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
- Masks with exhalation valves or vents should NOT be worn to help prevent the person wearing the mask from spreading COVID-19 to others (source control).
Very bizarre that there would be vague or inconsistent guidance by the CDC. The link I provided doesn’t include your bolded point anywhere on the page.
Why weren’t we told to wear masks from day 1 back in January (looking at you, Fauci)? This thing would be over by now.

Wow, they really buried your bolded bullet point deep in the link you provided.

As far as the 180 on mask vs no mask, yes that was a pretty big gaffe (The European CDC had a similar stance btw). When you consider the fact that this is a novel virus, the temptation to monday morning quarterback the situation with the benefit of hindsight is very tempting. It's important to remember that it was an emerging crisis without a clear playbook, not that that necessarily excuses all of the clumsiness we've seen.
Still, I think it's a stretch to say that "this would be over now" if that hadn't happened. It's also important to remember that Dr. Robert Redfield is the director of the CDC, not Fauci. I also don't get why Fauci is somehow more to blame than Trump, who is in charge and has said countless ridiculously false claims and in the past discouraged mask use. Yet Fauci gets one thing wrong and he's the devil? I just don't get how this double standard works, but I've always admired Truman's philosophy that "the buck stops here." For Trump, it seems his philosophy is "the buck stops everywhere but here."

Why? Maybe they just don't want to touch their face and put their mask on the seat someone was just sitting in so it can fall on the floor while making a left turn across traffic, all for a 3 minute drive when they have to put the mask back on. It's not dramatically miserable for most people to wear a mask.

Also, I know you want to gaslight everyone and lay this at the feet of Dr. Fauci, but he's been more consistent in his messaging than most. Donald Trump didn't wear a mask publicly until JULY. And you want to blame Fauci? Pathetic.
Oh and then there's this guy - today. Masks are still a hill to die on for the country's mentally challenged.

Hey Speed Select, where does reading comprehension fall on your "survival of the fittest" scale?

According to the Wutfaces of APC, Fauci’s THE preeminent epidemiologist in the Western Hemisphere. Dude got it wrong on transmission (“no human to human“), severity of the outbreak (“won’t affect US”), and masks (“don’t wear them,” “wear them,” “I told you not to wear them so we had enough for medical personnel” couldn’t he have told us to make our own like everyone ended up doing anyway?).
Has the guy preemptively gotten anything right throughout this? He’s the Joe Biden of virus prevention.

Haven’t kept track of where I rank reading comprehension, but everything’s worked out pretty well for me so far. I’d guess my reading comprehension ranks somewhere above mouth breather.

It must be exhausting to be that willfully obtuse.
