I know that travel falls off a cliff starting with March 2020 data, but reviewing this last week I can clearly see Tuesday/Wednesday numbers and then what seems to be obvious Friday/Saturday numbers. That lines up with the trend lines for 2019 data too.

I can’t wait to see 1000% pax numbers in a couple weeks!
So you’re saying that as it’s presented everything in 2019 needs to be shifted a day? And it’s causing Sunday’s to look exceptionally good and Tuesdays to be exceptionally worse than normal? Makes sense. I was trying to rationalize why some of the swings were happening the way they were.

Yes. Starting with 3/1/2021

2/28/2021 was a Sunday 3/1/2021 was obviously a Monday.

2/29/2020 was a Saturday, but it’s not accounted for on the TSA site. It’s like they just jumped to the Sunday number to match up with 3/1/2020.

fortunately we have the 2019 numbers from when they started last year - and yes, this 2156262 for sunday 2019 was actually compared against Saturday 3/7/2020
I have fixed my comparable numbers to be the correct weekday pattern (since have correct 2019 data from last year)
Sun 3/7 1.278 MM - 2nd best absolute since Dec 27 @ 1.284MM
51% YOY
1wk & 2wk averages both running 45%
I think the 1-2 wk averages will be over 50% by end of month - no foolin'

FWIW, leisure travel (Thu-Mon) has had 3 prints higher than 45% since winter break.
Tue-Wed - my surrogate for business travel - has been hovering around 1/3 - 3/8

It’s pretty remarkable the inverse and delayed correlation to the case numbers graph.

59.25%. I didn’t look, but that’s probably a post pandemic record, and certainly hugely encouraging for a random Sunday in March.

Spring Break season is in no way in full swing until closer to Easter, and most public schools are back in person at least enough to prevent the family from going on a long holiday. Weather across the continent is favorable. I would love to hear which one off aberration is causing travel to be getting momentarily stronger from the pessimism crowd.

FWIW, this day in 2020 was the last day TSA numbers passed 2M. International is going to have to come back for us to do that again, so I’m guessing not this year, or at least not until November/December.
it was just everyone getting into position for international women’s day.

sarcasm-in case it didn’t translate.

Mon 3/8 1.1 MM, 47%
The last 5 days have also been the 5 highest absolute numbers of 2021.
47% average for those 5 days.
1wk & 2wk averages both running 45%
