While the passenger numbers are great to see,I would caution against a ton of rose colored glasses yet. Planes full of $50 one way fares isn’t going to lead to an industry recovery anytime soon.

Nobody is buying any rose-colored glasses yet, but if we can keep cash burn down while avoiding furloughs, hangar queens, and non-current pilots it’s certainly a step in the right direction.

Gotcha, was attempting to be a little positive for y’all or whomever. True numbers don’t lie and it will be slow and even more so internationally it’s dead out there. Trust me, our company is taking advantage of those penny airfares moving us around here and overseas and no one should ever have rose colored glasses in this industry. Even for us box movers as everything is cyclic and all areas involve risk and some have more risk more than others. This industry is solid as Duplo Blocks.

Airlines don't want to file BK, that's more dangerous for managers than it was 15 years ago.
Airlines cannot unload airframes in this market outside of BK.
Since they're stuck with the capacity, they might as well fly the planes to retain (or even gain) market share so as to be positioned for the longer-term... as long as they're not bleeding vast amounts of cash in the process.
They can do cheap fares to hold market share as long as they're close to break-even. Shareholders and BoD's don't have unrealistic expectations (like profitability) right now.
If they're flying, we have jobs. This formula should work for a year or two until the dust settles one way or another.

In normal times most pax don't actually WANT to fly on Xmas day, they get forced to that due to availability (procrastinated), or price.
This year, there's more than enough affordable capacity before or after the actual holidays. I'd expect Dec 25 and Dec 31/Jan 1 to be lower than surrounding days.

Good point. It’s pretty sobering how much cash they’re losing in addition to basically giving away seats so they still have customers. It will all depend on how summer 2021 goes. That will be the best time to see how well airlines can recover. If summer doesn’t go well, I’m sure there will be bankruptcies and mergers.
