Vaccine Development Summary

I would not bet that mask mandates will go away any time soon, vaccine or not. Especially - as seems likely - the vaccine winds up merely reducing the severity of COVID when you DO get it and does not necessarIly keep you from getting or spreading it.
I hope I’m wrong.

I agree. I think if you get a vaccine Q1 and that’s an if I do say Q4 before we see any true relaxing of public health guidelines. Assuming we driven infection levels down. I hope I am wrong but everything I have read is plan on them running concurrently.

To paraphrase: Producers of vaccine candidates are aiming for 60 to 70 percent efficacy in preventing COVID-19 infections. Thus, there will be a follow-on requirement for revised, more robust vaccines which will have increased efficacy in preventing coronavirus infection requiring more time than anticipated.
Translated: Hang on to your masks, social distancing practices, and hand sanitizer! They aren’t going anywhere for quite some time, even after the first vaccine(s) have been distributed to the general population overall.

Yeah I read an interview with Fauci sometime in the last two weeks. He expects things with a 60-70 percent vaccine back to mostly normal q4 2021. So yeah we got a long road ahead.

Given that the great Spanish Flu pandemic of 100 years ago with a case-fatality rate far higher than that of COVID went away spontaneously in two years WITHOUT a vaccine, I’d say he’s certainly not creating false expectations with THAT prediction. Nonetheless, only time will tell...

Im in the Moderna phase 3 trial. I got my first dose about 2 weeks ago. My arm was sore for a few hours and I was a little fatigued all weekend. No major side effects. The doctor told me that I would know if given the vaccine since the placebo was just salt water. I have to go back in a few weeks for the second dose. The entire operation is really impressive with the number of people, app diary, phone calls, and follow up appointments. I make a little money out of the trouble, but mainly wanted to have a chance at the vaccine and help life get back to normal. So far so good.

So, if 60-70 percent would have the antibody, would it require 100% to take it? Dr. Fauci has said he doesn’t expect 100% to take the vaccine, so we would never get back to normal, ever, ever, ever. Or would it burn itself out sooner than that? My betting is on the later.
In other news, the world ended today, film at 11.
