I don't live in BFE. I have friends and family in WA, CA, NY, NJ, and MI metro areas. His reality can't be that different from everybody else's, unless he's actually posting from a nursing home.
I'm dead serious. My Dad's best friend got it from family that was visiting. 69. Male. No health issues. Didn't drink. Didn't smoke. The other was the father of a friend of mine. Early 60s. I don't know his health history. But he was in the hospital for over 3 weeks. Looked like he was pulling out of it then crashed.

The fact that you all can be like this isn't happening is remarkable. Your bubbles must be very small and very strong.

I guess so. I live in LA and have lots of cousins and aunts that are nurses working in hospitals and none of us know of anyone that has tested positive for the virus or antibodies. It makes it hard to take serious down here.

That reminds me, I have another friend whose parents are fighting for their lives in an LA County hospital. The mother is a nurse and brought it home.

CA healthcare workers are getting slammed right now. Especially SoCal.

The whole point of this fight is so that you don’t know anyone that gets it. Jeez, theres no hope for us.

You're right. There is no hope. We had to stop hospitals from being overwhelmed, so nobody would know anyone who got it.

Isn't that the point? It seems like a lot of people, especially those on the right, don't give a crap about anything until it hits home for them.

I suggest you all turn up your empathy dials and act accordingly.

That’s too much to ask. Half the people in this country don’t even know where Memphis is on a map.

I'll wait right here.
550,000 dead.

That's what it will take for everyone in America to know someone who has been killed by COVID-19, statistically speaking.
Current US Population: 329,000,000
The average American knows: 600 people*
329MM / 600 = ~550,000

As of 6/23/20, the US has 122,000 confirmed COVID deaths. In just over 3 months, we're at 22% of 550k. If the last 3 months are averaged over the next 12, statistically speaking, then by May 1, 2021 everyone in America will know someone who has been killed by COVID-19.

Does that do it for ya, princess?

Interesting chart that shows national deaths in excess of what was expected a given week. The excess can largely been explained by COVID. It *appears* that, thankfully, excess deaths are in decline from their peak(reporting lag causes most recent weeks to be artificially low).

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm

On average, 50k-ish people die in the USA from all causes every week.

On average, 73k-ish people are born in the USA every week.
