for the record I’m not pro lock down or pro open it up.

Whatever happened to a measured reopening while taking prudent precautions (limit occupancy, testing requirements, masks, disinfecting protocols) based on infection rates and other metics? why can’t we have that?
Because of “Rugged Individualism” and anti-science bias.

That’s what I see going on in most parts of the country.

Just pointing out that stating that “positive Covid = 30 days on a vent” is absurd paranoid hyperbole.

But those that think that are welcome to stay home.

Me too.

We were told by the media what we needed to reopen was a strong supply of medical PPE, plenty of acute care beds/ICU beds/ventilators for those who got seriously ill, vastly increased testing capability/capacity/availability, contact tracing, social distancing and masks if social distancing wasn't possible.

We have all those things. They're being done across the country (well, some could admittedly do masks and social distancing better). Many retail locations santitize touched surfaces after every single/second/third client, even though CDC and WHO now state that fomites aren't a primary driver of transmission.

I'd argue a substantial of recent positives being asymptomatic shows the benefit of increased surveillance via testing availability and testing campaigns of at-risk groups.

We were also told that positives would likely go up as states reopened their economies, but that was totally acceptable as long as all the other requirements listed above were in place. People seem to forget that part...

This isn't going away, it wasn't ever going away, being shut down isn't going to make it go away. Risk elimination isn't realistic, so all we have is risk mitigation.

.....And some people need to realize that Covid deaths are never going to stop. When you're 88 and frail or already in failing health, your odds of getting past a nasty bug are low. That's just how life is.

When you say the sky is green and I say the sky is actually blue is not to be mistaken as me saying the sky is falling
