Negative effect?

Anywhere from "none whatsoever" to "holy sh!t I thought the 91 cowboys had retired or killed themselves".

I've got 2 years at a regional and feel it made me a much better pilot and recognize the benefits a 121 guy can bring to a 91/135 operation. I also see the liabilities they can bring to, however those liabilities are totally dependent upon each pilot's personality and ability to be flexible.

A good manager & quality hiring practices can separate the proverbial wheat from the chaff fairly well...

* Dad got me a job as a construction worker and made pretty good money.

*That allowed me to buy a 1/4 share of Bonanza at 18 to finish pilot's license while also attending college.

* To build hrs, I started flying local car dealers around for free if they would pay my gas and expenses.

* Rich people hang around rich people so those car dealers talked about me to their friends.

*One of their friends bought a BE-200 and needed a co-pilot (they called me).

* I had 494.1 hours TT and a COM/ASEL rating

*Went to Beech King Air school in ICT and got my ME rating.

*Flew BE-200 for 7 months and then the CP got recalled by AA (left me the operation)

* Flew single pilot another 6 months and the CEO wanted a jet

*We bought a DA10 initially and got a commercial Type at FSI TEB (too young, 20 yrs old for an ATP yet).

*Flew LR-25D, Falcons, and King Air until 23 and got hired at Eastern Air Lines.

*Flew 1 year at EAL and got hired by FDX at 24 and have been there ever since.

*27 years and typed/flown 727/757/767/777/DC10/MD10/MD11/A300/A310.
Currently 777 Captain.

I will start by saying I am extremely lucky to have my position and I know it.

20 years in Navy with 10 of those flying Multi.
Knew someone who knew someone who knew someone.
Hired to fly Part 91/135 for a reputable company and now having a great time doing what I love.
Have a BA and MBA as well.

Graduated college in 3 1/2 years (doing full on summer semesters AND working for 2 of those years) with an aviation Bachelors degree.

3rd year of college I got my CFI and went to school full time and instructed as full time as I could handle.

Instructed for just over 3 years mostly due to 9/11 happening a few months into my instructing career.

Got a job with a regional for 2 1/2 years.

Knew someone I used to instruct with who was working for a 135. He got me a job there flying a small jet. (Double my regional FO pay)

6 months later got moved up to captain of small jet

Wound up working for that 135 for 5 years, during which I flew the small jet, then the mid size jet, then the large jet. Flew the large jet to many places in Europe, Asia, South America, and Middle East. (First trips to South America and Middle East and Europe as PIC were and still are the highlight of my career.

Wound up getting married, and the lack of schedule, poor pay and long times away from home, working at the above mentioned 135 led me to seek other employment.

Got a job with my current company, another 135, mostly on my own merits, but did have a recommendation from someone currently working for them. I'm now flying a super-mid jet as PIC with a schedule and same pay I was making flying the large jet at the previous company.

Currently trying to get hired by a fortune 500 or one of the major airlines, hoping to add another paragraph to this post soon!!!

2002 - Private pilot one month after high school graduation
2002-2004 - A&P, Instrument at University of Central Missouri
2005-2007 - Commercial, Multi, CFI while earning bachelors in business at Missouri St and working as lineman at local airport
2007-2008 - Worked as CFI and lineman
2008 - Hired part 91 corporate flying a Saratoga
2013 - Saratoga upgraded to TBM 850

Definitely paid my dues flying a Saratoga 2,000 hours in 5 years, but in a good spot now with the new airplane. Not a twin turboprop or jet but I'm getting decent pay and I've got great QOL and that's very important with the wife and two young kids.
