Default Proline 21 lightning bolt - colors ?

Can someone explain the difference between the yellow and red lightning bolts on the Proline 21 WX radar

I have not been able to find this in our factory literature but the search continues....

Thank You

Which radar do you have? Do you have lightning (Stormscope) detection?

We have the TWR850 in the Hawker displayed on the Proline 21 and we have never seen lightning bolts. What your describing is what we have seen with XMWX lighting data but the colors are yellow and white IIRC, which determine the age of the data.

I think it has to do with the age (time the strike was detected) of the lightening being displayed. Can't quote you specifics, but that's what I was told about our system (CJ3, Collins PL21, when you switch on "LX")...as mentioned by somebody else above.

Hi- Assuming you have the PL21 Goodrich Stormscope Series II Model WX-1000E(may say Rockwell Collins on it-- i'm not sure)-- Engineering Documentation says that--

-Maps electrical discharge activity (lightning) 360 degrees/200nm
-Three levels of intensity-- Level 1 lowest rate of electrical discharge-- Level 3 Highest
-Transmits up to 63 thunderstorm cells.
-Updates every 2 seconds
-Electrical discharge activity is presented as thunderbolts on the MFD in yellow, red, and magenta and yellow signifying level one and magenta as level three activity.

I'm looking to get more information on what exactly the levels are. I'll post back/when or if I can find more information defining level's 1-3.

Enjoy!-- RC HF Engineer-- Disclaimer: I do not work this program and it is different than much of the new stuff we work on. This is pulled from documentation I found.

Thank You. No, i don't have the engineering manuals. (!). Just the POH and whatever supplementation the factory provided. I asked other P-21 pilots this and they looked at me like i had three eyes. "the colors ? uh...."

thank you
