Default Grand Caravan/C-182T

So the more I read these posts the more I am begining to think I am getting screwed. I currently fly for a company that owns a Grand Caravan and a Cessna 182. Both are G1000 equipped. I have been working there over 2 years and I have about 2200 TT. I split my time between the two a/c and log over 500 hrs per year. My current salary is 32,000/ year. I am crazy for thinking I should be getting paid more?

2011 Pro Pilot Salary survey shows average for Corporate Caravan Captain as $49,000. Low end of the range is $39,000, high end is $62,000.

On the one hand, $32000 divided by 500 hours is $64 an hour. Not bad for those aircraft if you ask me.

On the other hand, I think your mindset has now synced up with the airline pilot group as a whole and you're ready to be accepted into their ranks. You'll hear much the same from nearly everyone at any airline in the country - "I'm not paid enough".

There is plenty of opportunity to move to the airlines if that is what you desire. The money can be better, but the industry and lifestyle and benefits and pay and commuting and stresses of the job can easily make one wish they never got into this profession.

When you were hired on did they discuss income advancement? What part of the country do you live in? What other benefits do you have? What sort of medical insurance? If you have great benefits, sometimes it is a "wash".

I live in Georgia and I do buy into the company's insurance program. I guess my biggest peeve is that I was hired as the 182 pilot. When the company got me qualified to fly the Caravan there was not increase in pay. My feeling is; upgrade in equipment= upgrade in pay.

Ok,

You infer that you are a Captian on that Caravan. I assume there was transition training (albeit maybe sparse) and you are now logging 250 hrs/yr turbine time. This is worth something that should be included in your thought process.

You need to understand your value to the company and be able to express that to your boss. Your employer did not feel an increase was justified so either you need to find another job, or you need to think in terms of how you can convince your employer you have added value and have earned a raise.

Based on what you have posted, no one here can make an accurate assessment as to whether your employer is being fair or not. (no offense to anyone).

I would not look at this hourly. If you fly that amount it could technically be a part time job if paid hourly, so this is full-time and should be paid salary. 32,000 a year is regional airline pay. There are a lot of caravan opportunities out there, cargo, passenger, and corporate, that pay quite a bit more than that. And generally the larger aircraft drives the salary. If they purchased a falcon and made you captain on that, would you expect a raise? I don't know your exact situation, but maybe suggest to them that you want more, or that similar corporate flight departments with the same aircraft pay more. Or even seek out a job doing the same thing that pays more and ask them to match it. If they can afford the airplanes, they can afford to pay you a bit more. And replacing you costs a lot in training....
