Proline 21 - anybody use compass rose ?
As a former EFIS-85'er (King Air) still getting used to the Proline 21, I have found displaying the compass rose on the Captain display seems to make me feel better than the other choices.
What is everyone else doing ? just curious

In the CL300 and CL 605, I use Rose rather than PPOS. I find having a course arrow helpful for orientation and is necessary to anticipate LOC NAV-to-NAV transfer. And you already can have PPOS below the EICAS, anyway. Most of the rest of my tribe use PPOS, alas. Guess one cannot have too many maps.

I always used compass rose, but I was in the minority for sure at my company. As pointed out above, you already have the map on the center...in addition you have to have either compass rose or arc mode up (per pro line 21 manual) in order to fly an ils. I enjoy to hand fly a lot so I found having the cdi needle up nice even if flying the fms, as opposed to just following the flight director (which I liked to turn off on approach anyway). Ymmv

ok cool....even a "Challenger guy" flying a rose! For me it is kind of a "middle ground" between EFIS-85 and using the Proline without the rose. Yes, you can display the other information on the center panel.

Most Proline 21 folks I know and have flown with use the compass arc, not the full HSI or map presentation. The arc gives you good heading info and a CDI needle and is a bit larger than the full circle HSI. Using the map on the PFD is unnecessary since you have a map right next to it on the MFD anyway.
Re: Southbay's mention above about the requirement to use the arc or compass rose for an ILS, it doesn't really matter what mode you start out in, as the system will automatically switch from map to arc when the LOC is intercepted. At least in the 2 Proline aircraft I have flown. Just a bit of trivia.

True, but the switch to ROSE occurs upon NAV-to-NAV transfer, you don't get a "ghosted" ILS course arrow to monitor and anticipate the intercept. Maybe I'm just an old fashioned guy, but it is nice to see the intercept happen.
