We have EFIS 85/89 same thing I believe the 89 has the ability to tie into a GPS for approaches, so most of the planes on property have the 89. IIRC I prefer map mode if I have a built in flight plan, but if it's constantly being changed or vectored I'll take the Arc. Then again if I could have my way I would use HSI, but were not supposed to. I really don't have any time on the system yet, but I will very soon here so I can post more once I have a better understanding of it.

Same here.
We're EFIS 89. I generally have the GPS with Map mode up to. It is very similar to what I had in my previous life and I am very comfortable with it. I like the other to have it up no matter what other mode I might be in on my side for overall situational awareness. I rarely use the Arc mode except for ASR/PARs.

I'm not familiar with the PPOS mode discussed in the ProLine21 system. I did get a chance to fly it for a few minutes at the sim last recurrent and our training department continues to develop our training system for the front and back while line crew go to Flight Safety in Wichita for the initial class. I haven't had the opportunity to talk to anyone about it yet, but I'm looking forward to finally see it hit the line.

You only get the radar in arc or map mode iirc so to me it's just a matter of how were flying ie. vectors or STAR's DP's etc. etc.

You get the "ghost" LOC needle in ARC mode. If you're in map mode, it auto transfers to the arc for a ILS/LOC. At least on the 3 different Proline aircraft I've flown. Is yours different?

That is true, BUT in PPOS (termed map in some installations) you will have map right up til the transfer, no "ghosted" course arrow, no display of how the intercept looks, just, " bam, ILS".

When in PPOS you still have ILS/GS indications on the ADI so you can call "LOC alive" and judge the intercept based on that.

Absolutely. Not arguing that point.

I was refering to using the PPOS/map on MFD and ARC on PFD. This is the best of both worlds. You get a large compas arc with CDI, and have the map right next to it. I can only handle soooo many maps anyway.

That is what was originally taught--Rose (arc) on the PFD and PPOS on the MFD. It is still that way in the CL 605 pilot training guide. Our guys started that way, but reverted to PPOS all around. I'm old fashioned, but like seeing a big course telling where the plane is going next.

Guys I apologize I didn't see your posts. On the EFIS-85 (B350, 3500 HRS PIC in it....), I preferred the Compass Display (360 degree) HSI format.

20 years ago the Seminole I learned on was HSI, and ever since I have been HSI guy. I am not fond of the other formats.

Glad I'm not the only one who likes that mode.
