Opinion on Degree
Hello Corporate! I was wondering what the opinion of bachelors degrees is for corporate/135 operations. I am getting one, that isn't the question. I understand for the majors what your degree is in doesn't matter, but is one preferred over another in the corporate? Does a business flight department look at an applicant with a business or finance degree closer than, say, a criminal justice degree? Just curious, all thoughts welcome. Thank you, and happy landings!

What he said.....nobody cares what its in. Just have one.
Do it in something that interests you..aviation or otherwise. Do you have an outside of aviation interest to possibly fall back on if you get tired of flying? Teaching or Nursing degrees strike me as solid choices.
And no, a corporate/business flight department does not care that your degree is business or finance related. You wont be making the billion dollar deals, you are flying the plane. Despite what some pilots like to think, one does not need an advanced finance degree to negotiate fuel deals or a FlightSafety training contract...
Good Luck!

Well, not being one to argue, our company has just gone to
GPS- Global Pay System - and two of our pilots with degrees
In IT are valued higher. Seniority and seat still have a larger influence,
However, your degree field does make a difference.

I agree to a certain extent!
Degree does matter, but what is the most important part of any organization?
COMMUNICATION!!!
If you know how to communicate well and have a minimum of a B.A. thats all you need.
The illusion of making mid to upper 100k figures is far and few between, NOT SAYING THE JOB ISN'T OUT THERE!
If you want that kind of money , then YES get a PHD, MD etc... otherwise it will not happen in this day and age unless you own your own "successful" company!
We are all glorified bus drivers irregardless of what type of operation we choose to operate in!
JUST THE TRUTH STATED!!!!!
BOTTOM LINE, HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO MAKE VS. HOW MUCH DID YOU EARN TO DESERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!1
