Default HF in the North Atlantic

Can you cross the North Atlantic without a HF radio if you are far enough north?

The Spruce routes should provide VHF service above FL 290, except for one report over the Davis Strait. You have to exit the UK via Scottish Control at ot north of 60N or enter Scottish at or north of 60N. IOW, not thru Shanwick OAC. it will be radar most of the way once under Island Control, except for a short time over the Faroes. I've done it and the AT section of the Jepps covers it, please read for current facts. Gander Radio and OAC might be a bit surprised by it, but just give you a VHF for 50W.

Google "North Atlantic MNPAS Manual." It's too hard to paste a link on an iPad. There is a chapter on skipping the tracks on the Blue Spruce Routes.

You bet...I've done it in a LR-35. Route was CYQX-CYFB-BGSF-BIKF-EGUN. If I remember correctly we had VHF communication the entire route.

Must be a C-21, nothing like a few beers at the galaxy club or bird in hand to finish a long day of flying
