SIC Minimum Time
Can you guys tell me what the minimum required hours are to fly SIC in a Citation II or Lear 35? I imagine it's based on the insurance companies, but what are the 135 operators hiring SIC's at? Thanks!!!

Tough question. Anywhere from 250 to probably 2000-2500 TT with anywhere from 10 ME to 500-1000 ME. If it's an ARG/US operator, they'll want whatever ridiculous requirements ARG/US has right now. Then throw insurance into the mix and.......punt.

I think ARGUS Green is 1000tt and 500pic now. Our company has hired at least 4 SICs over the last 4 years with 300 hours. They all knew a current pilot or the owner, its all about who you know in 135.

(For a King Air) I've seen some that require 1,000 hours Multi PIC, and others that have hired folks with maybe 40 hours Multi PIC.
For the most part it's all about who you know, but I don't think you'll ever hear anyone tell you that you can have "too much" multi time. Forget degrees, and turbine time...IMO, when hiring picks up, the single largest factor that will seperate pilots who are eligible for a job or not is how much multi time they have. Not saying I agree with it, but thats how I feel.

As a chief pilot for a 135 I can tell you that flight time is not as important as personality. Motivation and ambition are huge when you have to work autonomously in a flight department with little outside support. Having a sense of humor and positive demeanor also make the extended trips easier from a crew perspective.
We still really need 1000 hours for ARG/US, but a 1000 hour pilot with no jet time who meshes with our organization would probably work out great.
