Free recurrent training at FlightSafety
Memo sent out last week to employees:
FYI:
We are introducing a new Proficiency Protection program to help FlightSafety trained pilots and maintenance technicians of business aircraft who have become involuntarily unemployed since January 1, 2009. This will help them to maintain their proficiency while they pursue new job opportunities.
FlightSafety will offer a no cost recurrent training course to pilots who were training under a Full Service contract at the time of involuntary job loss. The training will be provided in an aircraft type the pilot trained on under that agreement. Customers who were enrolled in the Master Technician program at the time of involuntary job loss may receive the next course towards their Master Technician rating at no cost. The program will remain in effect until December 31, 2009.
This marketing initiative is designed to secure Customer relationships and increase revenue now and in the future. Most importantly, it demonstrates our support for the business aviation community and our commitment to enhance safety. More detailed information on the program, including the eligibility requirements, will be available at flightsafety.com next week.

My CP was in the process of getting me on a full service contract at the time I was laid off in January.
Apparently, I missed it by that much!!
Good move by FSI though. I'm sure that move will help a lot of folks.

Good for Flight Safety to offer this but they are going to have a very hard time retaining customers if their prices stay where they have been in the past.
Last training quote for a Beechjet was nearly double that compared to a competitor...
I am not affiliated with nor do I have any bad feelings towards Flight Safety... just will never go there because their prices are consistently out of whack in comparison with other companies that have courses for comparable aircraft.

So for every loyal, longstanding FlightSafety customer this applies to, there will be a dozen to which it doesn't, and this could end up engendering some very bad will for FlightSafety.

BUT, it applies only to companies on "Full Service" contracts. I have been with FlightSafety (and alternately with CAE SimuFlite) for about thirty years, but have never used the "Full Service" contract because of having to remain current in too many aircraft types.

anyhow, if it helps a few, so be it...its good.
Training centers must be hurting bad, ours called looking to see if we wanted recurrent at 20% off our current price just to get someone in class this month.

Unfortunately, FSI has the philosophy that they do not negotiate on price. I don't know if it's because they don't want to dilute the brand or something else. It's similiar to the fact that you never see a Bose headset on sale.
Can you get a headset that's somewhat like the Bose for a lower price? Absolutely. Bose never drops the price. They offer additional incentives like a free this or that every once in a while. I think it's the same principle at FSI. The full service folks get extra courses (International Procedures, CRM, RVSM, etc.) tossed in to sweeten the deal.
As for drop off in business, FSI has approx. 160 instructors furloughed and is closing down centers systemwide the week of July 4 to save costs. The marketing folks have leeway to change the pricing structure but I don't think you're going to see firesale prices ever.
