Default Corporate and second class medical

Switching over to all Part 91 PIC flying mid size jet for a family/Corporate and we may do some trips to Bahamas on very rare occasion. Do the Bahamas go by ICAO medical requirements or is a second class good for PIC with ATP? Thanks

As usual I’ll take the tangent.
This a single pilot ops?
Why 2nd? Can’t get a 1st?

Two pilot crew required for mid size jet, Part 91 only. Last time went for a first class last April had to jump through a bunch of hoops for FAA requested documents by the time I got the medical was only good for two months since it goes by the applied date not the issue date. So if can do it with a second prefer not to push it.
Thanks

Most of the world will require a 1st class where an ATP is the license requirement--turbine powered. And, it will expire on the exact date six months after issuance. Figure this FAA medical issue would be my advice.

The Bahamian rules look a lot like the FAA rules. As I read section 8 and 10 of their rules, you need an ATP and first class medical for air carrier operations but only a commercial and second class if you are being compensated.

10.135 COMMERCIAL PILOT PRIVILEGES & LIMITATIONS: GENERAL
(a) When qualified and current for the aircraft category, class and type being operated, the holder of a commercial pilot licence may receive remuneration and exercise the following privileges—
(1) To act as pilot-in-command or co-pilot of an aircraft within the appropriate aircraft category engaged in operations other than commercial air transportation;

ICAO first Class Medical Brief:

ICAO designates three classes of medical assessments:

· Class 1 for ATPL and CPL-holders

· Class 2 for PPL-holders

· Class 3 for ATC license holders.

This classification is used world-wide. The FAA has chosen to number the US medical classes differently, causing considerable confusion within states (countries) evaluating, medicals from U.S. pilots. The US first class and second class medical certificates correspond to ICAO Class 1 Medical Assessment. However, even though a US first and second class medical certificate is the equivalent of an ICAO class 1 assessment, in some ICAO countries it may be easier for you to carry a US first class medical certificate than to explain to an inspector (in a foreign language) that a US second class equals an ICAO Class 1 from the rest of the world.

A US first class and second class medical certificate is the same as an ICAO Class 1 Medical Assessment. For More Information regarding these medical standards, a point of contact within ICAO is: Dr. Claus Curdt-Christiansen, MD, DAvMed Chief of Aviation Medicine Section ICAO - Montreal [email protected]

Contact AOPA, if you are a member. Or, you can check the Bahamian Airport Information Publication. AIPs provide descriptions of differences from ICAO.

Even if perfectly healthy ... every 12 months versus every 6!
