Default rich pps with airplanes

Hey,

So you hear about those rich folks that own their own airplanes, such as Gates, Dion, Saban etc etc who own a Global Express for instance and there are many as those named above... where they don't use the fractionals or netjets and such and just own thier own thing....

I wonder as pilots, how do people land those jobs? Are there companies that are made to staff these particlar airplanes with pilots or do you have to know somebody?...

Thx!

They don't land those jobs with 500/50 that's for sure. The really good ones are found by word of mouth with people that you network with. However for flight times your looking at around 5000/3000, lots of turbine, and a couple of type ratings.

You've heard that in aviation it's a small world? In those circles it's a much much smaller world! Those types of jobs are found through personal relationships and VERY rarely advertised.

That said, you'd be surprised at how many these people rely on charters via companies like NetJets.

I thought those guys flew themselves and every once in awhile you hear about one of them getting themselves in over their heads and pulling a Kennedy Jr.

All of the above.

Some charter, some own and then use a management company to crew it and charter it out on the side, and some like Sydney Pollock fly it themselves with crews on the side just in case they don't feel like flying a leg.

from what I've heard, never fly for an owner. you're at thier disposal and can be worse than charter work , and without the rules. friend of mine flew a G3 for an owner and his first trip they went to Europe , slept in the plane and turned in less than 10hrs back to the states. needless to say it was his last trip.
