In addition to verifying the Trims & Flaps are set twice, we are now going to push the TO CONFIG button twice too! Ref: FOSA. This new SOP couldn’t be more of a mess; let’s just do everything twice!
Select TO Flaps (Guess), FC Check...
TO Data: ...Stab 3.5, Planning Takeoff Flaps 2 Set.
[Three Items Later]
Trims...Centered 3.5
Slat/Flap...2 Set
Before TO flow: Annunciator “Takeoff OK”
Before TO Check: TO Config...Checked
Lining up on the runway:
Annunciator “Takeoff OK”
Am I the only one loosing my mind here?
Oh I almost forgot:
“29.92 180, 29.92 180”
Decent Check: Altimeters...29.92
Select TO Flaps (Guess), FC Check...
TO Data: ...Stab 3.5, Planning Takeoff Flaps 2 Set.
[Three Items Later]
Trims...Centered 3.5

And man, get a hobby or something, who cares if you say altimeters a few extra times... you only have to check the TO config again if you set the brake or change the runway.. don't set the brake, or set it and push one button as you're getting on the runway. Just not a big deal, yea?

But hey I thought, ok, note to self, give it a second- it is a computer in there after all! Problem solved, I think these are good read file items, not SOP change worthy, but hey, I'm not in charge here (which is good for everyone).
It sounds silly to me to hit the takeoff config button after each brake drop post checklist, but I might have a little fun with it on a line check haha.
I'm learning to say at Compass Airlines "..this too will pass.." I'll get over it.

Some suspect that procedures are written in this way, not to prevent an accident, but to protect the procedure-writers from being blamed if there is an accident.

I thought I was losing my mind too, so I am trying to get clarification.... sounds like another knee jerk reaction like the night visual into SJC thing. I flew with a captain once who had to abort because he dropped the brake on the runway after a long "line up and wait" and immediately advanced the throttles (thrust levers for you purists) and got the master warning. He felt like crap and I felt bad for him, he had to do the whole song and dance with SOC/MXC and it came with a homework assignment when he got home.

So if I do the Before takeoff check, and I'm number 5 in line for takeoff, and SEA is being slow with their departures, and I set the brake every time I move up a plane length, I have to push that button every time? That's how I read it.
