The 18 percent should have happened in September or October then. We weren't short staffed then, and we certainly aren't now with surplus crews. So that 18 percent was a recent thing. Why did it take almost 3-4 months for them to finally realize that they can bump up the LCR? I suspect a lot of it has to do with the recent individual that just departed...but that is pure speculation.
In regards to open time, it is down significantly. Standard system problem routes such as San Diego and San Francisco seem to be the only ones, and now going on two months of LCR, all I have gotten are mostly end of the day turns that screws a commute and a commuter hotel. Such is life, but it sure beats having to shell out 3 large ones a month for a crash pad. This is the optimist in me speaking, but I am hoping that May brings more hours, and with that, potential for more line holders.
Something I did want to touch on though: if everyone remembers that ****show of an all employee call last month, Bob did say that he would, or would assign someone, to send out weekly reports on IOCC, the issues that were being attacked, and how they were going about fixing them. Well, haven't seen one yet. Time to hold his feet to the fire again? I'd really like to know if this is just a can they are trying to kick down the road or if they are truly interested in fixing this goat rope of a system...

Was it less than 18% last year? Don't know, I wasn't looking at it then. If it was, did someone fill a grienvance? Don't know.

I'm sure not many did. I mean really why wait to come here? We are the only regional not hiring, downsized, not the best contract, crap IOCC, no bonus, clearly no new flying on the horizon...What do we have to offer? Shiny 175s maybe? LAX base? I think CPZ shot themselves in foot on this one. I guess we will see how many they can get in the door soon enough.

They could have also continued to upgrade, again at a slower rate, maybe 2 a month. Sure would that make us fat on pilots? Yeah but instead of people talking about bailing for company X, Y , Z that called with a class date, we'd have them here on property. It's also a whole lot better way to market yourself at a university looking for new pilots than saying, come back and talk to us in the future when we're hiring.
That would have cost TSH some $$$ but if they have to throw higher bonuses out when we do start again, it might not have been the cheapest option. Look at GoJet offering DEC $94k first year (granted that number included commute hotels etc) but that doesn't sound like it is the most economical way to attract talent. But what do I know, I'm not the bean counter that makes those decisions.

Yes if Compass was smart, well TSH, they would have continued hiring even though we don't need additional pilots. They could have hired at a slower rate. Next they would have said look guys we need to keep the pipeline flowing so that we continue to get new blood. To compensate for the extra pilots they could have said all line holders will still get paid guarantee, or 85 hours even (some value that mgmt/union could agree on) but lower the block hours per line this way open time would still be there for guys to pick up, reserves could be used and I'm pretty sure those at the top of the list would be ok with it since they are still getting paid with more days off.

But yeah, upgrades in June and ground school for new hires starting in July. So probably orientation and CBTs in June for new hires.
