New hire questions..
Would a new hire just coming on line in MSP expect to get any flying while on reserve?
Also, the training department has not taught us anything about:
-PBS
-FLICA
-viewing or interpreting schedules
-trip trading
-open time
-Reserve scheduling
-Lufthansa IOCC (still cant access this or PBS or FLICA)
-Crew Scheduling (this was presented, but is was "The fastest I have ever presented this to any class ever")
-etc.
As someone with no prior 121 experience, I have to say I'm worried about getting out of training and having no idea how to view/access/understand any of this. Im aware of the APLA PBS guide, but are there any other resources that explain this well, and is some of this decrypted in IOE?
Thanks

The training department won't teach you guys anything regarding schedules or bidding as their job is to teach you to be a pilot who flys a plane, not bids for a schedule. So your best bet is that once you get off IOE, hit up current FOs or CAs and ask them how to bid and read ur schedule etc.

For scheduling: The contract (available via Comply) contains the guidance for scheduling. Consult it first, then ask questions about what you don't understand.
For most everything else: You will learn from other crew members if you ask questions while sitting ready reserve. (IOCC - which includes trading, open time, viewing schedules - is still a wildcard. Everybody is still learning about it.)

Also thanks to the others for the advice.
Any way to tell if I'll see much flying on reserve in MSP? I've heard rumors that some newer reserve FOs don't fly at all in MSP

Have you done IOE yet? If not, all you really need to do at this point is wait for your IOE schedule via e-mail then show up when/where it says to, keeping in mind it might not be your base. I still did not have access to IOCC when I showed up for my first IOE trip, just call the SOC to check-in and show per the e-mail.
As for learning the bids/schedule, not to sound like a broken record but everybody is right, you will pick up bits and pieces as you go. You will likely do 2 IOE trips to get the hours so utilize your check airmen to ask these questions. Also, you've already missed the March bid so even if you finish IOE say this week the training department will have to build your next month schedule for you and ask your preferences etc. So don't lose sleep about not bidding right now, just take this one step at a time, next step: show up for IOE.
Based on the junior guys I know in MSP you are not going to fly much. I'm actually surprised you even got awarded MSP. That being said, its the airlines and things change daily.
Good luck, fly safe!
