Worst IT department of any company i have *ever* worked for, inside and outside of aviation. Apple user? SOL. We have a company ipad. Make the training completable on it. Make one portal on ipad using one common login that links to all company sites and apps. Make an app for ASAPs and Crew Reports that is able to be filled out offline (so you can get it done while fresh on your mind) and uploads automatically when you are online. This is all stuff that some other carriers have. I'm not asking for the moon here [well maybe I am, this is TSH].

The part about picking up stuff that shocks me is when the training department is sending out critical pay emails for STL and are stating that only the SIM portion is critical pay and the DH is straight pay.
Really? Have some respect people. Stop falling for this crap. Tell them you'll do it if it's all paid at critical pay. The union should also step in on this. It's pretty clear. They simply can't just decide to pay a portion of a critical assignment as regular pay.

That's great to hear you won. Wish the union would've stepped in and said this needs to apply across the board.

Anybody see the memo that was supposedly sent to the flight attendants that we're not allowed to take water off the plane anymore? I'm assuming the intent it to stop people from taking brand new unopened bottles off the plane and leaving the incoming crew without enough water at stations that don't cater? Obviously they don't expect us to leave the bottles we've been drinking out of on the plane just to be thrown away right?

Assuming that you're staying longer than 90 minutes... Don't take any fruit that could grow in Canada. Bananas are fine. Declare your food if you have any meat or dairy products, but make sure you specify that it's store bought. Take all the liquids you want. On the way out be prepared to set off the magnetometer and get wanded if you use anything but the line on the far west side of security. Don't forget about the short cut between 0500-1300. Follow your CA's lead and you'll be fine.

that's it. On the flight up there fill out both declaration forms. Van comes on a schedule. You'll clear US customs in Vancouver. Canadian security is a pain in the rear hole...always takes longer than it should and every single thing that goes through the xray machine goes in a bin.

Reserve guys, a couple things to remember because the company seems to always be abusing this but especially as of late...
25.W.c
A Pilot in a Reserve Availability Period will exercise reasonable efforts to report within two (2) hours from the time the Company notifies him of an assignment, and will report as early as practicable.
This does not include your report time(45 prior)...so theoretically scheduling can only give you an assignment where a flight departs no earlier than 2:45 minutes from when they call you. (Unless on ready reserve). If the company wants you there earlier, simply remind them of this and say "I will make a reasonable effort."
Also...
If your out flying the company can only give you more flying via ACARS or company rep
25.P.1
With respect to a rescheduling which extends a Pilot’s duty beyond the scheduled termination of a Duty Period, and which is made to the Pilot’s schedule after departure of the last Flight in such Duty Period, it is recognized that, in order for the rescheduling to be effective, the Pilot must be actually notified of the extension prior to the Release Time of such Duty Period. In most circumstances, such actual notification will be accomplished by means of ACARS messages, voice radio contact, phone contact (not to include voicemail or text) or face-to-face conversation between the Pilot and a person designated by the Company to directly notify the Pilot.
Moral of the story if your flying on your last leg and scheduling is trying to extend you, if you don't get an ACARS or no one meets you at the gate, don't answer the phone or call scheduling when you arrive. So many of our pilots don't know this, so use it.
Should “actual notification” not be accomplished, (i) such Pilot will be deemed to have begun his rest and shall not be required to report for any duty until at least the conclusion of required minimum rest and (ii) any rescheduling that may have been done by the Company shall be “corrected” to reflect the Pilot’s commencement of rest, and the Pilot shall have no claim of right to the Flying so removed from his schedule.
