Yeah he was disturbingly matter-of-fact about blowing the slide. Like it was no big deal with no possible further ramifications for the crew or anybody else. Almost like he felt that was the industry standard in such cases, like the mainline guys do it all the time or something.

Sounds like they had airstairs with plenty of time, but the station wouldnt let pax off, stairs pulled away after they thought the DOT clock was reset. soc wasnt notified that the station wouldnt let pax off apparently. I think the slide was a last ditch effort as they found out last min the stairs they had did not comply with DOT3 since the station didnt let anyone off. By no means did I get the sense that this is standard ops. In fact quite the opposite. Someone asked "will this be standard procedure in the future?" And he said "no, no it will not".
They had stairs in place in time, but the station didnt have personel to deplane. That was the root of problem....

Understood all that from the phone call. The bigger concern is what will be expected if we hit a 3 hour limit again. Will they expect us to blow the slides now? What will happen to us if we refuse? Does this question warrant clarification from the FAA? To me this sets a dangerous precident.
That was answered during the call. Someone asked will this be the norm if this happens again and the answer was a clear NO.
