Hey, one of the guys here that got hired and then had my training date cancelled because of the lost jets. I noticed Compass changed their page back to "hiring" and added "hiring 140-180 pilots in the next 6-9 months". Any news out there about getting new flying? I got hired by Skywest in the mean time so afraid if Compass calls me back I will have to choose between the two. Any input on how long it would take to get to SEA after training?
If you're in the 'hiring pool', I'd expect a phone call at the end of April or sometime in May. It appears to me CPZ is not by any means planning on beginning training for any new hires in until May. They are severely overstaffed with pilots (also 100 FAs overstaffed they told me at orientation).
Also, at least 15 new hires in front of me want SEA, the most junior guy to get SEA just got it with an October hire date, and who knows how many more in LAX are sitting on a SEA bid waiting to go. At my interview they said "New hires go to LAX and SEA and bidding SEA is easy in training, reserve time is 2-3 months in LA... etc.). Maybe that was true in 2015/2016, but these 6 planes adversely affected newhire QOL more than you'd think, and SEA seems to be shifting towards becoming a senior base.
That said, if you do choose CPZ and wait, if you get a class in the summer then you won't feel the above effects that much, as hiring will continue underneath you. Not a bad deal at all. However, by the time CPZ calls you in for class, you probably could have been flying for a month at SkyWest and have 60-80 names underneath you on their seniority list.
TL;DR: It's a relatively unfortunate time to be a newhire at CPZ, but won't be so in 6 months. Also, SEA is not easy to get into right now. Lastly, disclaimer, I'm in training and know nothing but what I've heard around the training department.
