Which may be true but it shouldn't be. Compass does not control the operation at the airport nor do they control the gates. This fine, whatever it may be lands squarely at the feet of the mainline partner.

The FFD model truly is broken.

Just like when we don't have a gate in LA cause daddy D took it away to give it to one of there planes and our A-14 takes the hit. In a similar way we take the hit for AA not having a gate for us, we get fined and they walk away blemish free.

FAA investigator: 'Sir, for a moment we'd like to talk about American Airlines business relationship with Compass Airlines."

AA Representative: "Compass Airlines? we'll have to get back to you about that"

None of us know what's in the CPA. We don't know who takes the hit for it.

We probably only have 30% of the story, and we're all just speculating the rest of the details. I feel horrible for the CA that was put in this situation, it's ****ty and the company should never have put him on a 60 second pressure cooker.
You have 60 seconds, yet what was going on during the other 179 minutes? Not quite a pressure cooker situation. At that point it's worth fighting the fine with the 70% of the story about the hours leading up to the "emergency." Being told at 179 minutes to do something desperate does not sound like a good plan.

Can you imagine being that dispatcher, trying to joke with the pilots and lighten the mood in a bad situation, then they actually go and blow a slide?

This incident makes it hard to hold ones head. News articles seem to suggest that the airline is investigating why the slide was blown as if we don't know that is was erroneously ordered and complied with.
