Reserve Coverage
Based on PBS today, which is still open for August bid, it looks like there are 32 anticipated LAX FO reserves for August, versus 22 actuals in June and 25 in July. Reserves aren't being utilized very much, even at these lower levels. Even with a couple of bidders being added since PBS opened, the number of anticipated lines remains the same. Can someone please advise how the number of anticipated lines and reserves for each month are determined? Thank you.

"Determining Projected Lineholders
To aid users in determining what type of bid to submit for the upcoming bid period, Crew Planning lists the number of projected lineholders that are expected for each position. This number is listed on the PBS Main page and is determined by subtracting the number of required reserve lines from the total number of users expected for each position.
Additionally, when factoring the number of projected lineholders for each position, Crew Planning determines the average number of credit hours per regular lineholder in each position, also known as Target Credit Average. Target Credit Average is determined by subtracting the number of reserve and pre-built lines from the number of users who are eligible to bid in a base. Once the number of regular lineholders is calculated, the total credit hours (excluding any credit in pre-built lines) are divided by the number of regular lineholders.
For example:
• MSP CA 10,000 credit hours; 126 pilots; 10 RSVs • 126 pilots – 10 reserves – 6 pre-built = 110 regular lineholders • 10,000 credit hours/110 expected regular line holders = 90.9 Target Credit Average for MSPCA
While users do not see the Target Credit Average on the PBS Main page, the projected number of lines is directly determined using Target Credit Average as a guide."

And it's absolute garbage anyway because we have a bunch of people that bid max credit and the number of lineholders never matches projected lineholders.
A highspeed or CDO is something we have a few dedicated lines of. You don't typically get them if you don't want them, unless you're on reserve when one is uncovered. It provides less than normal legal rest - for example land at 11pm, start at 6am the next day. Doing one won't kill you, and they are typically tho not always short flights. There are some that aren't that bad..., and some that suck. Doing a whole line of them... not for me. On reserve you aren't breaking guarantee anyway so it really doesn't matter the pay too much, but if you pick them up on days off or something.. you're nuts as they only pay 4 hrs usually for 2 days of unavailability. At places with a better min day where you get 10 hours for one CDO or whatever, they don't have as many of them and they go senior.

What would be the approximate upgrade time for someone with ~400 hrs of 121 SIC?

Nobody knows, nobody will ever know for sure. Even an approximate is hard to dial down and nothing but mindless speculation. Let's go with 18-24 months for fun. I think it'll probably stay about there.
