Saying I'm livid would be an understatement. I had the opportunity to attend the FedEx Expo but due to the staffing levels I was unable to drop my trip. Instead we have Thomas using Alpa days (comped by my union dues) and allowing him to directly affect the staffing levels for personal financial benefit and career advancement. I can't speak for the whole pilot group but that doesn't sit well with me. He can try and brush this under the table by stating he puts in far more hours than he gets paid for but he signed up for the position. Thomas Vandenberg will not have my vote!
Speaking of hats, for those of you who think you’re at mainline: Regional pilots DO NOT wear hats! Everyone at mainline is laughing at you because even they don’t require hats, and the ones that do, pay a decent wage. Do these pilots know the flow to DL ended a decade ago? At least half the pilot group today does not wear a hat.
The company is laughing all the way to the bank after getting our CBA extended for another two years, in addition to IOCC, and our sub-human travel priority. Even after all of that we still have guys wearing the hat...unbelievable!
Show yourself some respect and leave that D-Bag magnet at home, or stow it in your bag.

1: The company requires me to. By wearing it, that's one less reason for a chief (aren't we all chiefs here? ) to give you grief about it. Wasn't there a story about someone getting section 19'd over the hat? It was on the yoke clips so it must be true...
2. The only spot for my hat in my bag makes my bag no longer fit as carry-on luggage and it becomes difficult to store then. So in the interest of laziness, I find the easiest place to carry it is on my head.
I'm not saying I'm a fan of the hat, I'm just saying I'm too lazy to put it other places than on my head when I'm walking around. I never stop the guy I'm flying with from not wearing his hat, because he's a type-rated pilot who can make his own choices. Usually I'm more likely to get a comment from the non-hat-wearers about me wearing the hat and I list my two reasons and they seem to buy it. I never am the first one to bring up the hat subject on trips, though.
I do fail to see how wearing or not wearing the hat relates to IOCC, contract extensions, and travel benefits though.

Is there such a thing a the no hat police? 😅. My hat wearing sop goes in waves, there is no rhyme or reason. Sometimes I wear it while I fly, is that weird? "Approach check, shake n bake [hat comes on]"

I wear the hat for 2 reasons:

Hmmm choices choices.
On one hand, I act could like an entitled and upset child and silently protest the company by ... not wearing a hat..?
Or
I could wear my uniform according to the FOM
Besides, the ladies love the red stripe it leaves across my forehead.

No but in all seriousness I wear it because a friend of mine got 19’ed because he didn’t have it on and a chief asked him about it. I’m just trying to keep my head down until I get married to a legacy. If that means wearing a dumb hat, I guess I’ll do it for now. Just my .02. Now let’s talk about regional guys wearing the blazer in July.
