Day two: do my rapping bit with the rampers on push back, throw up my gang signs when we disconnect

Day three: explain to the pax in the welcome brief that the smooth ride we are expecting is due to the first officer's superior navigation skills. That way when we get moderate, they all wonder what he/she is doing wrong.

Last landing grease it in, make the reverse, and explain during deplaning when they mention how good it was that he FO walked me through that one.

But I think you were asking about Seattle, thats an LAX example.
The first and last landing is spot on. If you grease on the first one, the FAs are going to complain about every single landing for the rest of the trip if it's not as good or better than the first one. I always am hesitant to let my FO fly the first leg in case he or she gets all ambitious about greasing it on for the first landing instead of following the Compass way of pounding on the first landing. Not enough to qualify as a "hard landing" write up, but enough to instill respect for the tough job that landing the widebody RJ is.

That way you set yourself up for some happy FAs the rest of the trip when they see that you care enough to grease it on. Happy FAs, much like happy cows, come from California (at least trips with me).

4-5 days off, commute day, first landing will always be a pranger. I always let the captain know this was intentional as I wanted to let the passengers know they have arrived in ELP at midnight. Wake up any of the sleepers. This allows for faster pax deplaning so we can get to the hotel faster. Last landing is always a greaser unless it’s go home (commute) day. Then I make sure those boards go up so I can make my commute home in 30 minutes.

Bobby you crack me up. 😂

Day 3: 0520 show. Off to salt lake. 4 hour sit. Think about your life choices. Head to Calgary for your THIRTY HOUR OVERNIGHT.

Day 4: spent in Calagary wondering why you chose to become a pilot and reading frantic Crib Pay emails that you can’t grab. And looking up Spirit mins.

Day 5: 0600 show. Fly to Seattle, land by 7:30am. (This is where this trip should end). Nope, sit 4.5 hours. Listen to another heartbreaking company call replay. Get half way through, accidentally leave the app, give up because you don’t want to start over. Victoria turn that gets delayed an extra 2 hours as you perform mechanical resets, each time getting a new Embraer EICAS message. Duty off just in time for evening rush hour.

Total block hours: 19:43
Credit: 20:00 (only 65 more to go!)

Then 2 days off to get to know your family (1 if you commute) and a 0730 show for your next 5 day
This is the most brutally accurate thing I’ve ever read on the forum 👍

Good grief! This can't be true for a reasonably senior person (70% +),
can it? I was seriously considering Compass, but holy cow! Almost as bad as flying cargo... Things any better at LAX?

For the record, not every trip is like this but they are out there. And we are not the only airline that has garbage trips like this. This type of stuff should not make you not want to come here.

LAX FO good seniority now but even back in my 60% days the trip typically exceeded min credit (4 hours) each day. Sits are starting to pile up on the American side, not sure why, but delta side seems to be pretty efficient. Idk what the OPs seniority is and I'm not sure if that's what SEA is like but min day credit for 5 day full of sits is gross for sure. Someone has posted before we have more sits now because of low staffing so supposedly if staffing levels increase the trips will become more efficient once again. The good news is most new hires should gain quick seniority so you most likely won't do those nasty trips for too long.

There will always be sits. Back in the (good ole) MSP days we would finish a 4 day with a wonderful 3-4 hour sit to do a MOT or MDW turn. Always delayed of course.
