Chances are he was running drugs then too,you don't just wake up one morning and move 200# of weed across the country on your first gig..sure he may have been a great guy,but there's that whole "of good moral character" thing that goes with being an Airline Transport Pilot

Well it sounded like the criteria for liking a guy was whether or not he was or has been a convicted felon. Now that you bring up moral character, I suppose the FAA should start pulling ATPs for pilots who hook up with flight attendants on overnights while their spouse and kids wait at home, or those who lie or who have lied on taxes, or who drove drunk and never got caught etc... I'm done talking about this.

That's not even close to a fair comparison. This is felony drug trafficking. That's a 100 levels worse than what you mentioned. I get it. You liked the guy. But comparing what he did misdemeanors, or less is rediculous. Drug trafficking is a very violent, ruthless industry that ruins thousands of families lives, and kills innocent people in the cross fire. He directly, and intentionally contributed to that.

I whole heartedly agree with Bobby LS. I never met the guy, but I especially feel bad for his family. And to be honest I feel bad for him as well.
What he did is not right, but making a joke of it makes you seem extremely immature. It looks bad upon the whole pilot group.
