Phoenix on the other hand is directly connected to our other bases immediately and isn't really using any different network of planes or maintenance. Since it sounds like space at LAX is at a premium, it makes sense to open maintenance bases at other airports with the space that we visit often, like SJC. Phoenix makes sense since we have so many commuters from there and it gives us more than 2 bases to offer. It's also a base that has a much lower cost of living than LAX or SEA.
Then again, I could be completely wrong, but that's what I tell myself to sleep at night.

Still holds true that the only reason PHX opened was for recruiting/morale boost. Also the fact still holds that losing 6 airplanes forced the decision to freeze hiring. And if the post a few back was true that AT wanted to furlough how much did the decision to not have the LGA base include the thought of furloughing us? Did BG expect to furlough us because transferring MX to LGA was too expensive? Did we barely keep our jobs after they let the airplanes go? Did delta punish us an LGA was never an option? How much was the cost of LGA vs monthly bonuses? These are all thoughts going through my head and never make me feel confident about mgmt.
I'm not a company man, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt that having a lone base on the opposite side of the country could be logistically difficult. Less so for finding a crew room and opening a crew base, but opening and stocking a dedicated maintenance base and the required equipment and tools to make such a base effective. Even if they did do this, I doubt it would be as financially viable as just using an existing company out there.

If Compass were to spread east, like LGA, why even go to Compass? A big attraction is the guaranteed west coast bases. If I wanted to go to east I'd go with someone who offers more long term stability (maybe a wholly owned with a flow in my back pocket) and more money. How many regionals can I choose from if I want to be out there? Quite a few. How many for strictly west coast? Two?
