would you say its still a risk worth taking though? if the capt/FO list is relatively equal it would be about 350-375 FOs total out what I believe is 751 total pilots(i think). with 90 or so(i think) still to flow to Delta this year, coupled with at least some portion of FOs not having the time to upgrade, in addition to normal attrition....still seems to have a good outlook. Thanks in advance

Swore id never do it... But I am considering compass for the quick upgrade. Leave one regional for another. Don't know if I'll go through with it though as it such a risk and for other reasons. Just wondering if I'm too late to the game. I have the time to upgrade (4.5 years 121). Compass is the only regional I'd go for as well. Seems like it might be worth the risk but I have no clue. Prob best to stay put.
Everything is a gamble, unfortunately you likely won't know if you made the right decision til you retire. Good luck.

If your willing to gamble and take a chance hoping it happens quick, ask yourself a question. "Would you be able to live with your decision if it took 1.5-2 years to upgrade"? Do you think you'll upgrade 1.5-2 years at your current airline? I asked myself that question, and in my personal scenario I was able to because of my spouse's income and because we are motivated to move west.
Hard for anyone to help, I was asking THOSE SAME questions as you have. Not sure if any of that even helps.

I don't have firsthand knowledge but it appears Compass is nearly at the point of street captains. I've read and heard that the most junior captain alternate is currently in initial training.

Might it be street captains soon? yes maybe. If so will street captain last long? I personally dont think so because FOs hired 13-15 months ago are getting their time. Could it continue to be 6 months? Maybe.

Street captains is not going to happen IMO. Without listing all the numbers, we are almost done with our bulk upgrades. The Sept bid just was published and with the October bid that will end what we needed to cover the flows and the AA flying. Of course there will still be upgrades, but not at the 20-30 a month rate that we have seen and continue to see. Many of the bypassers that I have talked to are within 2-3 months of getting their 1000 as well. If they start to mark down for the October bid they have their 1000, which if you are 800 to 900 now, you should for a September class date, then the wave will begin to subside. I think the October bid will be very telling of more senior guys getting awarded and not guys still in new hire training. I heard some hard numbers around the school house and thats where I am basing this from. Just my 2 cents.

Firstly, the last award 04-15 was for 2 classes in July and 2 classes in August. They have been publishing 2 vacancies per month.
Secondly, once the flows finish leaving, we will still have a couple months of robustly upgrading. Remember, April May and June did not meet the projected 8 upgrades per week. These upgrades will eventually be needed so, the large vacancies will continue well past the flows ending and AA deliveries wrapping up.
This next large vacancy will go to the street. There should be AT LEAST 2 more classes in August, 4 in September, 4 in October and then most likely another 4 classes of 8 upgrades in November. Taking only from their last planning update, there'll be 10 more classes of 8 so 80, awarded by September.
Regardless, the question really is:
Will 40 FOs get their time in before the next award closes? 80 by the vacancy after that? I think the answer is No. Alternates are already from June classes. If you get hired this week, I bet you upgrade in the next vacancy.
The only thing I agree about is, there won't be "street captains". Compass will still train you as an FO and then upgrade you... IMO. All the nay-Sayers and haters said the quick upgrade was over if you didn't get hired by December or January.
FACT: March hires were upgraded and June hires were listed as alternates.... And the music hasn't stopped yet.
