Honestly I don't know how first year guys are doing it out in LAX. I know a lot get 2nd jobs (Uber drivers make a good 2nd job), rack up a ton of debt, live with their parents etc... There is no way in hell anyone can afford a comfortable lifestyle on 25K a year in LA. Expect to pay about 300/month for a crashpad out in LA if you commute.
That being said you could get MSP sooner than you may think. It really all depends on what the final size of the base ends up being which it sounds like about 80 crews from the latest gossip. A lot of MSP FOs will continue to upgrade over the year which will open up back fill positions. But you have to plan for the worst which could be stuck being LAX based for awhile.
As far as taking the 135 gig over Compass... well that could be a tough call. All I can say is if you are looking to break into 121 Compass is a good choice right now. Good luck.

If MSP is attainable between training and six months. Id likely, choose compass. CPZ has been my goals since starting flight school. SO either way its gonna be hard to convince me otherwise.
121 isnt necessarily my #1 goal. But a major/legacy is on that list. QOL with a good balance of pay is truly my goal. (like everyone mostly) Whether its 135, 91 or 121
I will be logging lots of TPIC at the other job. So I mean, I wont be checking the 121 box, but it will be jet time and sounds like any major or legacy in the next 10 years just will be looking for TPIC. Heck most of them already posted that as their mins. Thats really what id be betting on. Plus in 2-3 years I could leave the 135 world anyway and do a regional if needed.
A few things they told me I want to confirm are true. Are 1.5-2 year FO's really checkairmen? I was told that alot of young junior guys are getting time as checkairmen. That would be a huge plus.
And are most trainee's getting Dallas or the other sim site for training? If you get MSP, due to the contract they dont pa for housing, but if you got Dallas for example, they would.

Thanks for the info! LAX is my biggest concern. 25k? before taxes... So yeah, it will be rough. At best, my commute would be two legs. Likely 3. Thankfully I may have a free place to stay if needed in LA. Not full time, but a cousin has an apartment I could crash at. People at the CPZ office told me upgrade ikn LA is pretty much 1000 121 hours. Or 1.5 years. MSP a bit longer, but no factual number was given to me. Depends on how fast the attrition in that base is. But MSP would literally be a 40 min one leg flight, or a 3 hour drive for me.

The mounts slide into the chart holders and then the clip holds it on. It's a ball joint for the mount movement. It's definetly better than what the trial it's were using

Hi everyone, I was invited to interview with compass and would like to know how the process is and prepare myself for what seems to be a tough one. I have no prior 121 and 0 turbine. I just reached 1500 instructing and would prefer west coast but, can it be done with compass as a new hire? I have class date with another regional, but I have to move across the country. Thanks

If the mounts I used in the sim tonight are the same as the one that are going to be in the airplane, then you can fit an Otterbox Defender case in it.
