If we are canceling flights for no pilots available, then it's the company's fault for not staffing properly. We shouldn't have to cover up their mistakes by making deals and flying on our days off to hide the problem. Delta sees this and I'm sure is telling Compass to fix it ASAP...

I didn't even think twice about saying no. I will not encourage the airline to short-staff themselves. Maybe if they have enough cancellations do to no pilots available then they MIGHT actually do something about it. I absolutely refuse to work on my day off or let them treat me like a reserve. I'm a pretty senior FO so I should be the last guy they're calling to "ask for a favor" and treat me like I'm at their beck and call whenever they way.

I wouldn't be concerned over one turn canceling at all. In fact, other DCI carriers cancel more often and are less reliable - they don't even worry about losing their feed. Nobody else is staffed to take the flying anyway. Everything is going to be ok.
If they were really desperate, they would make Critical Pay a higher percentage.
Now let's talk about something exciting!!!
Since the current vacancy is only for FOs, will they backfill an FO position if a DTW or MSP a FO moves to LAX?
When is the next CA upgrade vacancy coming?

I don't think anyone's worried. It's just more frustrating than anything. It's something that is completely preventable. The big wigs sit there and twiddle their thumbs while we are expected to work harder to cover their inadequacies. Shuttle and ASA cancel almost daily due to pilot shortages. Even the mighty SKW is canceling due to no pilots available. It's happening everywhere. Check it out on DLnet.

I bet they do backfill MSP or DTW FOs. I and I bet the next captain upgrade vacancy comes out within a week of this current vacancy closing.

SKW canceled 8 flights in the last week due to no crews available. The big loser in the DCI system was Shuttle. They far outdo any DCI carrier in any given week. They were also just awarded more E-170flying for Delta. So performance isn't everything I guess.

Being able to finance/provide your own aircraft goes along way.

We cancelled WAY more than 8 flights in the last week due to no crew. What kool aid are you drinking?

If you can log into Deltanet then you can see exactly how many flights cancel and why in the DCI system. You can also see real time all of the delays and gate agents notes as to why. Explain to me why I'm drinking the kool aid for SkyWest's performance numbers?? You're confused.
