Word from the training department is the company is looking into hiring "street captains" who would serve as FO until the reaching arm of Upgrade above them hits the point where no one else is qualified (i.e. 1,000 SIC). They would then upgrade out of seniority order. If this happens, there is a contract stipulation that the FO above them would receive captain pay until qualified to upgrade himself.

Sounds crazy and my jaw dropped a little when I heard this in the school house recently but I did, in truth, hear it from a ground instructor.

I had a dec class and I was told by a few compass folks that I would be on the tail end of the upgrade, but would probably make the cut. I would imagine an end of November class would be similar.

That's fine, believe what you want. NO ONE believed the AA flying would happen.

Hey all! I'm currently in the Nov 20th class and looking for a bit of information. I'm pretty hesitant to leave my current regional (fear of the unknown, i suppose). As I understand it, my classmates and I are going to be at the VERY back end of the "quick upgrades", as in we may not get them (it all depends on who you ask). Would you all agree?

Also, i'm somewhat concerned about CPZ performance with Delta. It seems CPZ is consistently at the bottom of the performance rankings in D:0, A:14, and CCF when compared with other DC regionals. Any ideas on why this is the case? I know the contracts go out until 2020, but could Delta change that due to low performance numbers? I'm not trying to rile anyone up, i'm just curious.

I'd guess you will have a large amount of remaining wave to ride at CPZ and unless you have significant seniority (not the same thing as longevity) at your current regional, CPZ is likely far better long term.

No idea about your attempt to out guess the future with things outside your control. Other than that, CPZ is one of, if not the, best regionals right now by far. JMO.

That's if the company bypasses you on their own when you are qualified. When you're not that doesn't apply. Why would anyone upgrade from Senior FO when they could get captain pay? Street Captains are people who go directly to the left seat. There is a stipulation in the contract that you go straight to Capt IOE if you can hold the left seat in 13 months. That is what they are trying to do since they stopped training new fos in the left seat a few years ago. New hires will be able to do this so they are trying to reinstate this training like they USED to do already.

Would you have to meet upgrade requirements as a new hire to do that or would they assume you'll meet the minimums within 13 months?

Once upon a time everyone was trained that way and all were not eligible due to company times. This was before the ATP rule. Not sure this go around.

This industry is liking buying stocks, when everyone else is selling you buy, when everyone else is buying you sell. What was the best regional of the 2000's? Comair?

The question of when the quick upgrades will stop is the very reason I'd be very hesitant to make a lateral move. The very fact that people on here are already getting cold feet shows that the easy hiring for Compass will end next year and then what? What can Compass do to entice new hires beyond offering hotel rooms for training? Of course every Compass pilot is on here telling people the party will never end, their upward movement depends on it. The party will end eventually and then Compass will be just another regional with an average contract hard up for any pilot they can get. I'd do the math myself to get my own answers instead of taking advice from people who stand to benefit from giving out incorrect information.

What math are you going to do? Do you know how many people who don't have 1000 121 and will be bypassed? It's quite a few I have heard between 50-80. Do you know how many upgrades are planned? I have seen the training plan and it is 300+ Upgrades starting in Jan.

Isnt that pretty hypocritical? Endeavor pilot telling endeavor pilots not to leave?
