Corrections to rumors started here:

-There are no "20 Captains" leaving next month for flow. There ARE 4 management pilots / CP leaving soon (May 2nd I believe), that have been contractually held back for 9 months for their management roles. DAL is creating a class just for them.

-The first new E170 will not be ready by 5/1... too much paperwork/ops specs/etc. It is forecasted to be out flying in June or July.

All that aside, yes, major hiring going on, and they are having trouble filling classes.

Yea, it is limited to one quarter of the list in a 12 month span. That quarter is getting bigger though with us increasing in size by 33% over the next year. Bring on the hiring! Hopefully.

You realize that by you increasing in size by 33 percent is due to a direct reduction in mainline. You are getting new planes along with Shuttle America and Skywest to replace the remaining DC-9's. I'm surprised someone in your shoes would be excited by that. You will be at Delta someday. There's no doubt about that. It will probably be later than you think due to this latest round of outsourcing. You are worse off long term and short term because of it.

Sorry hockey, you took my post the wrong way. No I don't want your job, I want a job on your list below you! Yes I am excited for the opportunity to flow more pilots, and my bring on the hiring was a reference to Delta. All things equal though, DCI has and will be shrinking over the last year to continue over the next couple. Isn't DCI losing approximately 130 airframes in the 2010 - 2012 time range?

And I thought the MD 90s would / will be replacing the DC 9s.

That's the DALPA spin. The 12 Compass planes, 8 Shuttle America planes, and (I forget the number but it's probably close to 10) SKywest planes awarded recently are replacing the remaining DC-9's. The MD-90's are a short term fix to keep Delta from actually ordering airplanes. They might be growth airplanes, they might not be. It's hard to say. I've heard recent rumors that with fuel going up, Delta might not buy anymore MD-90's. We'll see. There will be retirements and there will be Compass pilots flowing to Delta (not the other way around). IMHO, Delta is a shrinking list. I am not trying to leave, but I take the optimism of massive retirements with a grain of salt. There are very few pilots leaving before the mandatory retirement age. The ones that did leave were bought out and even then some of them changed their minds at the last second. I look forward to you guys flowing up. I've been on reserve for 3+ years now, and that's not by choice.

For someone who's had a pretty easy road to a major job (via a regional, I might add), you have a

Don't forget about all the 50 seat CRJ's going away at places like Comair. These new 70ish seat RJ awards seem to be more a case of taking from one regional and giving to another. This is exactly the reason us regional pukes can't wait to get to a mainline carrier. So yes we would all like to see the flying go to mainline, but please don't fault us if we get a bone thrown our way instead of getting the shaft. This is already my second regional because I was on the shaft end of things last time. In the end with CRJ-200's leaving the connection fleet and these planes arriving I think there will still be a net reduction in RJs.
