Default Compass-The COMPany ran by ASSes

This is my 3rd airline,3rd! And might as well be given to republic or whoever else flies the 170/5.
As for those who say it is gonna hit rock bottom...it has already hit, we are just in the dizzy wakeup stage.Just got off the phone with the chief of chiefs. In training he gave me his cell number...to , i guess ...call him-that only makes sense right?
So I call him up and after explaining just who I am-'(A captain with his company) he goes off on "Its a saturday im with my family at home... this is rediculous... if you have an operations question call SOC...If I answered every phone call from my pilots on weekends I would never get any sleep...try being considerate next time..." ALL BEFORE I EVEN GOT THE CHANCE TO TELL HIM WHY IM CALLING OR EVEN MY NAME! Then he says "Im hanging up now!"

What the hell?

If you're Chief Pilot of anywhere, its your responsibility to answer the phone when it rings; its what you're paid to do.

File a captains report. Then let the CP do the carpet dance to the rest of the company. We know his response should have been if this is an emerency how can I help you. If it is not the on duty CP is...
Good Luck.
Don't let his superiors let him get away with this.

This guy is not just the Chief Pilot, he is the SYSTEM CHIEF pilot and he needs to go NOW. He is responsible for many blunders at Compass and hopefully management will realize he is costing Delta more than he is worth.

I don't know why you were calling a Chief Pilot but there are few reasons to call the System Chief directly instead of calling the 800 number and talking to the on duty Chief. Of course if you were calling for one of the few appropriate reasons it would have been nice if he'd have listened to what you had to say...

I agree with the other posts He needs to go.

Send a message to Director of ops, pres and all of his bosses. If you get no response contact them again. If nothing again do it in person and demand action.

But remember he was probably at home with his hat on!

OH wait he shows up to fly with no uniform so we know that cant be the case!!! What a DB!!

This is interesting, and the height of hypocrisy from a "do as I say, not as I do" leader. Way back when a friend of mine interviewed for a domicile chief position at Compass, this same individual went to great lengths to emphasize to him in the interview that this was a management position, and that as a chief pilot, he would have to be available 24/7 to answer his phone. So much for that theory. This is also the second time that a line pilot at this company has been bawled out for "bothering" a chief with a legitimate question. After being told not to call ever again "on my anniversary," the offending line pilot used bad words and unbecoming anatomical terms describe this chief. They got some time off for it, but kudos to them for standing up for themselves to this character. The company even sent out a chief pilot memo about what days are acceptable to bother the chief. I printed that one out for my scrap book.

The lesson here is, don't communicate if you have a question, just exercise your PIC authority. If you later get called on it, set up a three way meeting at the FSDO to talk about it. Explain that you tried to get clarification, but the company was too busy to care. For those who advocate calling SOC, you need to understand that we have a problem at this company of getting the answering machine far too often when calling dispatch, crew scheduling, or mx control. If they won't answer the phone in SOC, who else are you going to call?

I'm not normally an advocate of running directly to the FAA, but this problem needs some attention of the legislative kind. What a DB!!!
