Compass Hiring?

There are currently more factors pointing to NO furloughs than there are that furloughs will happen. Lets hope the economy at least stabilizes so we can limp through this year unscathed. The flowback is a thorn in mgmts side in regards to furloughs. It is costly to furlough for them now and lets hope it stays that way.

I just got done checking loads to about a dozen different cities in Europe out of JFK and ATL and in the spirit of keeping this thread positive, I simply will not say any more. Hopefully it's just February off-season loads.

It's NO secret that Europe loads are VERY weak right now. Asia is doing well though.

Im just curious of everyones take: I assume eventually that things will turn around, be it 2010 or 2015, what I wonder is if they keep collecting resumes to not get caught with their pants down when the cycle heads back the other way? And since I'm experianceing my first furlough, early in my career, my other ? is what is the amount of time (assuming a long furlough), before my only option is the carrier im furloughed from...ie has anyone experianced say a 1,2,3 year furlough that resulted in no one wanting to talk to them when hiring picked up again because theyd been grounded for so long? im tired of dropping off resumes, Im gonna wait it out...

Tprop, my advice to you would be this: Keep flying. Options are scarce especially for a furloughed Regional pilot(I presume you do not have 1000 turbine pic). The options you have do not pay very well. Maybe as a 2nd job you could look into instructing or jump pilot. Hopefully you can fly enough. Most regionals(late 90's era) liked to see 75 hours in the last 3 months. I think when hiring starts again you will see similar requirements, so be prepared. There will also be a lot of competition for a few opportunities. Hopefully you can find a way to "check boxes" on your resume, this starts with current flying.
Networking is also very important while furloughed. Spend time at your local airport, you never know who you will meet.
As for being recalled, if you really liked the company then stick it out. But keep looking for another flying job in the mean time, you may find something better. I don't know how long your recall rights last, be familiar with them!
Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about who's hiring during a downward cycle. It just has to play it's course. But, you need to work harder then the next guy if you want to get through this downturn sooner.
Hopefully next down cycle you'll be sitting comfortably in the middle of a stable major airlines seniority list.
