..and see their families, and sleep in their own bed at night, and have semi-predictable schedules, and don't play "You Bet Your Job" twice a year, and get the rubber glove treatment every six months (that includes job jeopardy) and eat at home EVERY DAY, and don't put their lives in the hands of minimum wage van drivers, and get whatever good or bad news from home first hand instead of over the telephone untold thousands of miles away, and on and on et cetera ad nauseum.
Everyone has their own brand of suffering. Our jobs pay just enough to keep the help around for one more day.

For the millionth time, this was ONE XJ pilot...supposedly. Stop saying "you XJ guys". Im a "900" f/o and believe me other than the fact that the DC-9 flown at mainline and pays more than the 900, Im not at all envious of that airplane. And I think I speak for most others at XJ as well. And are we all so childish that NWA guys have to act like you just called their mother a ^&*$% if you slip up and call the 900 a 9? Who cares...call it what you want.
Don't worry, it's not just us poking fun at -900 XJ guys, I've given lots of crap to new hires at 9E bragging about going to the -900 and how much better of an airplane it is...I understand you guys don't have a choice in what you fly, so I won't give you anymore crap bout it...

I think a lot of Mesaba pilots call it the 9 (at least I'm not the only one). I heard a XJ CRJ200 exiting the runway the other day and ground told them pass behind the CRJ900. The response was " Pass behind the 9".
CRJ900 = the new "9"
I really don't see the issue with calling in the 9, since most the DC9's are getting retired.
