Contrails, I am like you, a fellow XJTer with an offer at CZ, though I am probably about 400 spots above you (G7#). I took the class date next month, and I am done at XJT this week. Living in MSP, I just decided that I would rather spend some more time at home, take my chances at a quicker upgrade, and not wait 4 years more to get in the right seat at express. I know it's hard to leave XJT since they do treat us well, but there is somebody else around who has made the move. The right move? Only time will tell.

Thanks. I took what you said on the XJT board to heart as well about being in base. It helped me make my decision.

Good luck with your decision. I really mean that because I have seen many from other regionals coming to Mesaba and Compass. You should know though Compass has already hired 250 or so pilots and they have around 24 E175s. That means they will receive 12 more aircraft making it a total of 36. You can easily calculate from this that upgrade time will not be as quick as it has been because they are not going to staff all aircraft will all CAs, that would be too expensive for the management. 5 CA per aircraft would be a reasonable number and that means they only need 180 CAs unless Compass gets additional 18 aircraft which is a possibility but not yet determined. It's a toss up between Mesaba and Compass as to who if any gets them.

Understood, but living in base while being an FO is a lot more palatable than the alternative, which I am currently doing. I already know that my number at CZ will be around 260-275, so that immediately puts me closer (percentage-wise) to CA. On top of that, at XJT there are no plans for upgrade anytime soon, as the company will be shrinking for the next year, at minimum, and with amount of lifers there my upgrade time is more like 3-4 years with another 2 years on reserve as CA. Not willing to wait 6 years or so to have a line as a CA. But its always a gamble in this business...

I agree, it's a gamble but sounds like you did your homework before making the move. It should be an interesting year, what's left of it. Last Friday, Richard Anderson was on a Mesaba CRJ900 flight from ATL to MSP. Don't know what the purpose of the trip was. Presumably to talk to the NWA CEO.

I did do my homework, and I came to the conclusion that I need to take the lesser of two evils. Better QOL but more short term risk at CZ. Job security (for the short term) and better pay at XJT, but with long term QOL in the crapper. But having an sugar mama helps me with my flying addiction.

It is my understanding that CZ candidates and new hires are given a clear explanation of what can happen if things start flowing back.

When things are good (hiring.. flowthrough ...) when things are bad (Flowback... etc...)

Is this correct?

Did I talk to you in the LAX crewroom for about ten minutes a month ago before your redeye commute flight back to MSP? I was with a friend of mine and we'd just gotten in from Incheon.
