Although my plan was stay here longer, later in September I’ll be heading out to fly the bus.

I’ll miss flying with all of you.
Congrats man! You did it right.. Get in, roll the dice, get out. Curious, did we ever get to fly together?

I'm curious as to what the strategy is to stay at a regional when a Major job is available. No sarcasm, not throwing shade, just genuinely curious to what the thought process is.

An LCC isn’t considered a major by the vast majority of pilots.

Those pilots are still stuck at a regional.

But that’s not the issue. It’s another type, more pax behind you, and more money (at least after the first year). The issue is this; do you further your career (and/or QOL) more going there despite the restart to seniority or staying put.

When staying put was a Compass with great flying opportunities and career mobility, that was a difficult call. If Compass is to be furloughing, or even merely severely overstaffed with limited prospects for career mobility, the balance shifts. The issue then becomes the optimal transition to something better.

The kicker is the promised “opportunity.” The downside to that assertion is that the assertion that “we have no plans to close the MSP base,” turned out to be very.... unreliable.

Well, I came to compass with a goal of getting 1000 TPIC, then leaving anywhere. Haven’t hit that mark and don’t want to leave unless I have to, even though i agree that most LCC’s nowadays are basically mainline. I mean a pilot today could go to F9 or spirit and be making 200K a year in 6 years, with more than 12 days off, a great retirement plan, and job security. Sure beats any regional.

I would just rather make that step with 1000TPIC in my back pocket

Getting hired at a LCC isn’t as easy as everyone seems to think it is. You don’t just throw an app in and and go. They’re not at the 2015 regional level yet. That being said, for some people it’s true for the LCCs.

I left a regional for the largest LCC, my QOL is dramatically better. I make more money than I ever would have at any regional, and can easily hold all of our west coast bases. Waiting for that legacy call, could leave guys on the sideline for a long time.

Your posts are spot on and realistic. What’s happening at Compass can happen anywhere. If you don’t understand that you don’t understand this industry. For guys thinking 1000 TPIC is the magic number you’re smoking crack. That’s just a starting point. You’re gonna need a lot more than that to be competitive at the big 4.
